I never really realized until yesterday that the Simpsons sets a horrible example when it comes to drinking and driving. There are so many occasions when homer leaves Moe's and drives home when it is obvious that he is intoxicated. Also, yesterday in the Plow King/Mr. Plow episode when Homer was going to rescue Barney he filled up a thermos with Duff! I think it is horrible that such a famous show makes it seem acceptable to drink and drive. Any thoughts/opinions?

Sorry if this is off-topic, but the issue is not the substance itself, it's how the show portrays it as socially acceptable to drive under the influence.

Ya, alot of movies and shows are like that. I just saw S.W.A.T and they went to a bar, got drunk and then later like it was normal, all went their own way in their cars

Matt Groening would be very upset, your like marge in the episode where she takes the violence out of itchy and scratchy. Also homer has fallen asleep at the wheel, people have been blown up(ie luke perry in a pillow factory), dolphins took over the world and many other insane things...Its a cartoon, more off its satire/comedy...Homer drinks beer while operating a nuclear power plant!!! Do you honestly believe the simpsons act as a role model for ANYONE to seriously follow? In all seriousness...get a grip.

One of my favorite driving under the influence situations in the Simpsons (don't smoke and drive!) is, obviously, from the medical marijuana episode ("Weekend at Burnsie's") when Homer is driving to work and he starts to fly and his car has the trails behind it and things smile at him and stuff. I love that one

Simpsons has nothing on family guy. They have so many jokes about drinking and driving. they even have death drinking and driving. He's like, "okay, you can do this Death. your cool your cool. Just pay attention."

I think its funny as hell, what kind of idiot is going to get the idea that they should drink and drive from a cartoon?

People shouldnt take most of the stuff on TV seriously, anyway.

Take Jackass for example - They got sued almost weekly by some idiot who saw the show and decided to light themselves on fire or ride a midget into oncoming traffic. This is the sorta stuff that should actually terrify people - that theres actually someone out there without enough common sense or survival knowledge to resist their TV's messages of self mutilation.
