| I saw this today...all I can say is..wow... Amidst all the controversy over being anti-semetic, I didn't get the feeling the movie producers or actors were trying to portray the Jewish priesthood any diffrently than written in the Bible. This is coming from a history major who's done study in Biblical Archeology and and biblical history. Of course the priests were mad at Jesus...he threatened to undermine their control/power... As far as the gore..i'd take a 14 year old kid to it...sure it was dramatic, but not overly-gore-ridden. Saving Private Ryan had more distrubing images of people collecting limbs and intestines being spilled. The entire movie was subtitled, the words being spoken were either Aramaic or Latin. Kudos on the the actors learning to speak such dead languages! I liked how the movie ended, I liked how they did Jesus's resurection...(without spoiling) it was just "enough"--if you know what I mean.. I think more people need to see this movie. People were crying and sniffing at the end, and tons of people were about ready to...myself included. If your not religious at all, I still think it's a worthy piece of cinema to watch. Maybe your views on how Christians act about Jesus will change...

| Maybe your views on how Christians act about Jesus will change... I've always thought Christians act nothing like Jesus...and that's not going to get changed by some preachy movie.

| You obviously haven't met the right Christians. Also, more to the point...what I was saying is maybe by watching the movie and seeing a man suffer in a near-dead state for hours on end might show some atheist or agnostic just why Christians revere Jesus. |

| One of the best marketed movies I have ever seen. It was guaranteed to be huge just because of all the controversy that Gibson helped foster concerning it. |

| Yep, why spend money on advertising when it's been in the news for what? The last 6 months? |

| I also think this is going to be a movie I'll go see more than just once. I had one thought though; It's been accepted that crucifixtion victims were likley nailed through the wrists, not the hands. The hands are thought to not be able to support the weight of the body. I know that in the making of the movie this issue had to have come up. Mel Gibson no doubt talked over how he wanted the shots/scenes done. I was sort of wondering why he went through the palms instead of the wrists. I guess he wanted to keep everything very tradtional, even down to the tradtional belief of nails through the palms. |

| He also removed a line because it tested badly with one of his focus groups or whatever they call them in Hollywood. It's a movie. People shouldn't really be taking it this seriously, but of course Mel played it beautifully and got everyone worked up. We can't agree on whether one man was in the National Guard 30 years ago...Does anybody honestly think Mel has some insight on something that happened 2004 years ago? Going to be a richer man, though. ![]() |

| The good part of the story of Christ to me is that, I don't need to debate it. I have no proof whatsoever that Christ existed or didn't exist. I didn't watch the movie to see what happened to Jesus centuries ago, I watched it for the story. I'm not Christian, but that doesn't mean I don't think about Christ even if hes completely fictional. To me its about the morals, love, non-revenge, non-hate, tolerance, forgiveness, and such a big heart that he wouldn't hurt somebody to save himself pain. I think the movie strongly portraited that love, that forgiveness, that deference that you associate with Jesus, and that sent a tear down my face, it touched me. "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword." Anybody see Mel Gibson on Leno last night? He seems like a nice, real, sincere man. I like how you could just feel and look in his eyes and see he had no hate for the people that sladered him. He was totally forgiving. Peace, HN- |
