didn't think it was anything too special, i already knew what was going to happen so that took away some of the excitement tho. Still a decent movie, didn't hardly follow a thing from the book.

I thought a lot of parts were funny with Cruise's character being a dumbass

Spoilers ahead, but this movie sucked anyway so who cares.

I personally found it to be a giant pile of crap. So most of Boston is destroyed, but the family is just hanging out in the apartment, leaving the light on? The son runs into a big fiery inferno, but somehow ends up back in Boston? Spielberg just took the easy way to a happy ending.

If you're a super intelligent alien race who has been planning the conquest of Earth for millions of years, you'd think you might consider the whole bacteria thing. Come on! And also, if you're from another part of the universe, who's to say that you would even be susceptible to bacteria. The movie assumes that aliens formed cells that are extremely similar to our own such that our bacteria can infect them.

Even though the same electronics-ruining bolts of lighting (with aliens inside) have been coming down all over the world, tons of cars and tanks are in full operation. Tom Cruise's cell phone dies, as does his car, but some guy has a working camera and films the first alien attack that we see in the movie.

There are probably plenty more problems, but those are the major ones I noticed. I guess the special effects were great, but those don't make a movie.

I agree 100% weiisky, load of dung. I noticed the camera thing, even after an EMP going off. The other thing was when the walker thing was taken down (in the city, with the crows landing on it) why didn;t the American soldiers shoot at the alien the second it moved? I mean i wanna see an accurate interpretation of America's bravest and finest.

He also seemed to drive pretty far on that one tank of gas

I didn't think the movie sucked though.. it was alright. Just highly annoying in some areas.

I read the book first, but I still thought the movie was okay. I like Tom Cruise and thought he did a passable job. The main characters in the book and movie are totally different, though.

I would say you should read the book b/c it's a classic and gives you a lot more insight into everything. Obviously there are tons more details and the story is really good. Be forewarned, however, it's a tough read.

I thought the ending blew...it honestly didn't make any sense. Let me get this straight...an alien race, millions of years ahead of us technologically, is going to be stopped by simple bacteria? I didn't even watch the beginning, but the last hour was enough to make me hate tom cruise forever.
