I would easily consider this one of my favorite movies ever...all the better to watch it high.

what the hell is this movie about? i watched it once or twice but it always frustrated me how i couldn't quite grasp the concept. i kind of noticed how like the apes and the humans reacted the same way to the monolith..as if through the millions of years of evolution we are still basically the same..i dunno am i on the right track?

It's kind of hard to find a central theme in the movie...it is very epic. There are certainly a lot of connections between the humans and the apes in the movie, which suggests what you said. It's about evolution and the dehuminazation from machines (to the extent that the machines are more human than the humans), on a scale no less than the duration of mankind.
