|  They must be stoned at The History Channel... I thoroughly enjoy The History Channel. They have this show called Modern Marvels. They basically go through the history of something pretty mundane and how it has improved through the years or decades or centuries. It's interesting, for the most part. However, they're running out of ideas, methinks. The show on concrete was kinda dull, since concrete really hasn't changed much since... well.. EVER. But what's on right now is just stupid. Tonights modern marvel? ROCKS Rocks!?!?!?!?!? Motherfucking rocks?!?!?! Rocks are hardly modern... They are billions and billions of years old, man! OK, there are some igneous rocks that are far newer, in some cases mere minutes old near an active lava-spewing volcano. But come on! Yes, rocks have uses. I realize that pretty much everything around us that isn't plant matter, animal matter or manmade comes from a rock or made from one. But come the fuck on, History Channel! Rocks aren't so marvelous as the people who figure out uses for them. Was the rock that David used to slay Goliath all that marvelous? No, it was the divine guidance of the rock that slew a giant. In the time I typed that example, I thought of at least a dozen more that I won't bore you with. Perhaps the show sould be called Rocks: Nether modern nor a marvel. You're reaching, History Channel....

| Clearly you understand how I feel. Modern Marvels stretches it quite a bit more often than they actually hit it. Personally I think anything say four hundred years old is a bit past it for a truly modern marvel. And then, how are we classifying marvelous? Would that thing you put in the microwave to cook bacon be marvelous? Why have I not yet seen a Modern Marvels episode about Coach bags or Manolo Blahniks? Or even Lush Bath Bombs?

| This is something that crosses my mind whenever a new show comes out. When I first saw Dirty Jobs/Myth Busters etc.. I always ask myself how many seasons worth of shows can they pump out before they run out of new material. Myth Busters imo ran out of actual myths a couple seasons ago, now they'll pretty much take any idea they get at their site. |
