Default Greatest band of all time...

who do you consider to be the best band ever? imo without a doubt its pink floyd...no other band has so much meaning in their lyrics...and david gilmour's solos are absolutely amazing...

Hm.
That's really tough. I could think a few 'top tiers' but none that absolutely stands above the crowd enough to be crowned king... It's hard to say 'the best ever' in music because not everyone likes the same kind of music for one, secondly my favorite band isn't necessarily 'the best band ever'.

but I will participate anyway, I'd give it up to either Led Zeppelin or Bob Marley and the Wailers. Zeppy cuz they are just badass, no need for explination, and Bob Marley & The Wailers because Bob was one of the greatest song writers ever, and brought reggae to the masses along with a positive message.

I have to give honorable mentions to Black Sabbath who helped pioneered the metal sound I have grown to love, as well as King Crimson and The Allman Brothers Band who are so awesome I don't know where to begin. Pink Floyd too of course, but to be quite frank, I don't like all of their music... some of it is just, meh.

And I would give it to Tool, Radiohead or Nine Inch Nails but none of those acts have been around long enough for me to consider them 'the best ever', maybe in 10 years though...

I gotta agree with you Hydro, Pink Floyd is my favorite band and I've yet to find anyone, IMO, that even comes close to their greatness.

As far as influences on others, and overall production technique...I'd have to say The Beatles!

The combo of the Beatles and George Martin's production skills were a match made in Heaven IMO!

I know that I won't be the last on here to say that the best overall band ever would probably have to be The Grateful Dead. But I wholeheartedly agree with Spiral, I listen to so many different genres of music and like different aspects of each of them, so it's very hard to have an overall favourite band. I only chose the dead because i can listen to them no matter what mood I'm in.

For whatever reason, try as I might, I've never been able to make myself a fan of the Beatles. I feel like an outcast, but they just never tripped my trigger so to speak.

If I was going to pick my "Greatest" it'd be Black Sabbath. Not so much becauyse I think they rule (though i do)_ but because heavy metal may never have existed without their influence. People often try to credit Led as introducing "hgeavy metal" to the masses, but quite frankly, they are nowhere NEAR as heavy as Sabbath!

I guess for me it would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers.. their new stuff was great and funky, and their new stuff is good too.. just not the same. Still good, but a different style.
They are taking some time off and I won't lie.. I was kind of upset

I also really like Nirvana.. judge if you want; I think they were/are are great

Gotta be the Partridge Family. Shirley Jones was HOT!

I agree with Spiral. Everyone has different tastes. Might as well ask 'what's the best color?'.

But on the basis of 'impact on the music world' and 'could some of their stuff be hits today?', I'd have to go with the Beatles and Led Zep.

I'd say it's between Zeppelin, The Beatles, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Peppers are my favorite band but Zeppelin and Beatles are too awesome to ignore. I can't find the quote online but I'm pretty sure Abbie Hoffman said that the Beatles were the only band that did things right anymore because they worked like a brotherhood or something like that. I'll try to find the quote later but when I first read it it reminded me of the Chili Peppers.
