| It came to my realization that there was a bit of confusion about syncing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon with the classic film The Wizard of Oz, so I figured I'd start this thread to clear up any confusion. And while I'm at it, I thought I would add some other, lesser known syncs that most people will probably enjoy. Let's face it, as a stoner it is your responsibility to at least know how to set up Dark Side of the Rainbow... I'm only going to list my top three, but I know there are many others out there. And don't just limit this to Pink Floyd, people . There are many syncs out there for other bands, such as The Beatles, Radiohead, etc.So, without further ado, I give you The Comprehensive Movie Sync Marijuana.com Forum Thread! ---------------------- To start things off, here are the instructions for Dark Side of the Rainbow, one of the most well known syncs. Music: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon Movie: The Wizard of Oz With the CD in the player and on pause, begin to play TWoO. When the Black & White (important, be sure to ignore the color one) MGM lion comes on the screen (before the actual movie begins) wait until his 3rd roar. This is your cue to unpause the CD. Make sure you have the TV volume low, or better yet, on mute. Some people say to keep the CD on repeat and let it play through the whole movie. I do not know whether or not it works this way, as I have only done it by playing Dark Side one time through. That's it! It is that simple. Now, go! Try it for yourself! One thing that I do feel is important to mention: if you are doing this sync expecting to be totally "blown away" by the music and the video syncing, you will probably be disappointed. This sync is much more subtle than most people realize and will be more fully appreciated if you actually know what to look for. A few examples of what to look for: "Breathe" -The lyric "Balanced on the biggest wave" is sung as Dorothy is balancing on the fence. -"On the Run" starts just as Dorothy falls, and the theme of the music goes with the panic of the characters on the screen. "Time" -the ringing of the bells begins just as the witch enters on her bike (like a bicycle bell) -during the guitar solo, the fortune teller's sign reads "Past, Present, and Future" "The Great Gig in the Sky" -the singing begins as Dorothy panics, then slows down as Dorothy gets hit in the head -the songs ends as Dorothy gets out of the house -the song title vs. Dorothy's house literally flying in the sky "Money" -one of the most obvious syncs, and one of my favorites: "Money" begins at the exact moment that the movie changes to color -the munchkins appear to dance to the guitar solo "Us and Them" -ballerinas enter on "Us... us... us... " -"Down... down... down..." as the bad witch of the east goes down -"Out... out... out... " as the good witch of the north disappears "Brain Damage" -Scarecrow is singing "If I Only Had a Brain" "Eclipse" -the song ends with a heartbeat, while Dorothy is trying to hear the Tin Man's heart beating ------------------------------- Here's another relatively well known sync, though not as well known as Dark Side of the Rainbow. This one is called Alice in The Wall. Music: Pink Floyd's The Wall (minus the song Comfortably Numb) Movie: Alice in Wonderland Start the first CD at the exact moment that the music starts in the opening credits of the movie. When the first CD is done, pause the movie and begin the second CD. Be sure to skip the song "Comfortably Numb" as it is not used in this sync. Things to look for (just a few this time): "The Thin Ice" -"And the sky may look blue" as Alice looks at the blue sky -"Baby blue" is sung as the blue bird flies by -"Don't be surprised, when a crack in the ice..." is sung as Alice sticks her hand in the pond of water "Another Brick in the Wall, part 3" -the music intensifies as Alice gets really huge "Comfortably Numb" -most CD versions of The Wall have a minus sign (-) next to this track, and no others. "Run Like Hell" -the cards move to the beat of the song "The Trial" -both the album and the movie end with a trial I have not actually tried this sync myself, but I am planning on it really soon. I have heard nothing but good about it, and I know that it works. ------------------------------------- 2001: A Pink Floyd Odyssey Now for my absolute favorite sync. If the other two above seem a bit underwhelming, then this is the one you want. Music: Pink Floyd's song "Echoes" Movie: 2001: A Space Odyssey - end sequence Begin "Echoes" at the exact moment that the screen reads the title card for the ending sequence, "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite." Let it play until the end. That's it! This is my favorite sync, by far. The music matches up EXACTLY perfectly to the images on the screen. There is some speculation about most Pink Floyd syncs and whether or not they are intentional. THIS ONE most certainly was intentional. Stanley Kubrick, the director of the film, asked Pink Floyd to do the soundtrack for the film. Roger Waters declined, and was later quoted as saying that it was his "biggest career mistake." The way the music flows completely in tune with the images on the screen is just too perfect for it to be an accident. And on top of it all, the song is exactly the same length as the sequence of the movie! I hope these are useful to anyone on this site. If anyone else has other syncs they would like to share, then by all means, do so! Keep adding to this page, lets add all the syncs we can find!
