The Doors were a fantastic group, I love their music very much. Morrison was quite a smart fellow, and to be honest I think there is a chance he is still alive. The circumstances surrounding his death and the accounts of it were very shady, to say the least. I love all of their music, however Strange Days is my favourite album and it was Jim's too. One of my favourite songs has got to be Spanish Caravan.

I read a cool book on them a while ago called 'When the Music's Over' and it was super interesting. It had at least a few paragraphs on every song and a lot of other stuff. Tons of cool colour photos too.

Default Old and in the way

I loved the Doors. Especially like The Soft Parade.

The other day I was rifling through some old concert tix and came across a show my Dad took me to at Winterland. I remember it well, Dec. 26, 1967:

The Doors
Chuck Berry

Yeah, I'm that old. Seen em' all growing up in Berkeley back in the 60's. If you've read much about those days I can tell you that it was crazier than you could ever imagine. RIP Bill Graham.

Damn, I would kill to see Chuck Berry, The godfather of rock and roll man. Yeah, the Doors know how to put a jam together nicely. Jim is an icon.

Mr. Mojo Risin = Jim Morrison.

i love the doors, i got like 8 posters around my house, every song they have made i have. ive done 4 class projects on James douglas Morrison and the doors. read about 5 books. i drew jims face in adobe illustrator and used teh plotter at work to cut a vinyl sticker. ITS Awesome.

i like love street, a feast of friends, wild child, waiting for the sun, and thats just off the top of my head.

Jim Morrison is just so mezmerizing, the way he lived, the way he was, if only i could have a chance to see him alive that would be the ultimate.

i hate jim morrison with a fiery passion. yes, he was an alright singer, and his lyrics are (whether you like them or not) EXTREMELY over rated, and let's face it, without the band he would've been another drunk in a coffee house. the jim morrison to the rest of the band ratio is amazing.

and all this american poet bull****...im not even that much of a rap fan and Tupac deserves that title more. if i had the means of being heard across the country i'm sure my stoned rambles would strike a chord. not that im saying im a better writer, but in all honesty, everytime i see "An AMerican Poet" shirt i just wanna wear one that says "A Mediocre Drunkard With A Microphone"

but most of my hatred for jimbo is because the band rarely gets as much credit as he does. as Denis Leary put it "Do we really need a three and a half hour movie about the Doors? I can sum it up for you in five seconds; I'm drunk, I'm nobody. I'm drunk, I'm famous. I'm drunk, I'm ****ing dead."

He earned the means of being heard across the country through his performances.

Why does this make you hate Jim? If anything it should make you hate the media. Almost every band has a frontman who gets more attention than the others, and in the Doors it was Jim. It's not like he said he was better than everyone else. In my opinion, Ray Manzarek was the musical genius behind the Doors. Jim was just great with words, had a powerful voice, and put on a hell of a show. Anyone with these qualities can be a rockstar.

Now think of where the rest of the band would be without Jim.

Thanks, Beatlejuice - well put. The Doors were indeed an amazing band, though sometimes all people think of is Morrison (who is God anyway, so I guess it's ok).

I listen to the Doors alot, and I just bought a new concert DVD - The Doors: the doors are open. It's a concert they did in the Roundhouse in London in 1968, but I only recomend it to hard core doors fans. Black and white, very good music, and Jim Morrison is soooo ****ed up. My fav songs are Roadhouse Blues; LA Woman; Hello, I Love You; Light My Fire and others.

I just started getting into the Doors and their asskickery, which prompted me to bump this thread.
Which would you (plural form) consider to be their best album?

While many would say their first self-titled album, based on the fact that every song on it is amazingly awesome, I must say LA Woman. It's quite the trip.
