| Like a stoned friend said to me while we were listening to Junta on my car radio...."Hey, man....Trey's one dope mother f*cking guitarist!" Boy, was he right.

| One of my favorite bands. Their studio stuff is alright, but nothing compared to what they pull off live. My favorite years they played live are 1993-1997. Kinda went downhill from there IMO. |

| "My favorite years they played live are 1993-1997. Kinda went downhill from there IMO." Thanks for posting that...that might explain why I think Phish isn't so good. They sound like Dave Matthews Band (during verses and choruses) with the lyrics of Zappa or Primus. The mood of the music is a little too happy for me; it seems to permeate most of thier songs thus making them sound the same. Trey Anastasio is an amazing guitarist but the best thing i've heard him play is Sultans of Swing (and it was a straight cover). |

| Recently they have been dead on. I have seen them three times in the last year, and all the shows were absolutely amazing. Before their hiatus they were not communicating too well, and you could sense tribulations within the band in their music. But even then, they were still nasty. Now they are just having so much fun up on stage and they are busting out classic show after classic show. Check out some Nassau or Hampton from 2002, or the IT festival from summer of '03. (http://momadance.com for free downloads.) You can not really appreciate Phish until you see them live. The energy in the crowd and every note played is so permeating that you can not help but groove along. I have had some amazing times at shows, but nothing compares to seeing Phish. I'm hittin' Albany and Boston this coming December, and I can not wait to see what they pull off then. If you have the patience and motivation, try getting some tickets to a show sometime. They are cheap and you can not really get the full Phish experience until you see them in person. |
