I am sure many of you agree that there are some great musicians that get no credit, no spot on MTV, and are never mentioned with the greats.

Probaly the single biggest example of this is Ben Harper. MY GOD! Could he be any more unapreciated? I mean sh!t his new amazing album "Live from Mars" wasn't even listed in a "Albums too look out for" article i read. I was like WTF!!

Ben Harper, probaly the most talented man in music, and nobody in the media world gives a damn about hiM! He gets absolutely no time on MTV, and you never see him on VH1. Yet his music is memorizing, and he can play the guitar as well as Clapton, Cobain, Santana and all the greats. I mean what gives? When 3/4 people don't know who he is, it pisses me off!

I am sure there are many other examples of this, i guess Slightly stoopid would be the second biggest case of unapreciated musical talent.

BTW, this new Ben Harper Album is the best CD i own now that i bought it. It is truely amazing! Live songs from all of his concerts. Check out reveiws over at www.amazon.com.

I totally agree with you, Ben Harper is amazing. Slightly Stoopid also kicks arse, another example of a good Skunk Records band. there's loads of good bands out there that deserve attention, and don't get it from the media, but judging on how crappy mtv is these days, this may be a good thing.....not getting attention from them, that is. heh.

Default Same with hip-hop...

...instead of playing the undergroup tracks and groups, they play all this recycled mainstream BS (Hot Boyz, Nelly, DMX, to a degree...). I've seen DELTRON 3030's Virus video aired once so far, and I personally believe it outdoes anything else hip-hop-related on the TV-stream.

Slowly, however, people are noticing the underground hip-hop culture, which is good.

Some artists I'll tell y'all about:
- DELTRON 3030 (Simply amazing...)
- Mos Def & Talib Kweli (Great lyricists, work together as well as peanut butter and jam, heh...)
- Royce Da 5'9 (His tracks usually have great beats...)

Go get their tracks on Napster or what-have-you, I hope you like 'em.

Any jamband, from the Dead to Phish, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, etc, etc, no love from MTV, despite the fact that they are all better musicians than probably everyone on MTV. Maybe it's better that way, that way if I ever see Trey walking down the street, the only people I'll have to fight through will be other heads.

It's amazing how so many great artists remain comparatively unknown to so many people. When I mention groups like Remy Zero and Super Furry Animals, most people I know say they've never heard of them. Let's go back in time. Who dosen't know of Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Deep Purple. But what about Budgie, Blue Oyster Cult...?. Billy Joel and Elton John - what about Todd Rundgren?. Every hardcore metal-head is familiar with Metallica and Slayer, but how many know Celtic Frost?. For almost every style of music, there are lesser knowns just as good (and some arguably better)as the big names.

So often an artist's antics make them more famous (or infamous) than similarly or even better acts. Tesla played hard rock just as good as Guns n' Roses, yet they concentrated on making music rather than making trouble. White rapper Everlast has made great hip-hop, yet he's not a household name, unlike another white rapper whose name starts with the same letter.

i agree with suabakey....deltron 3030 is amazing....one of my favorite all-time albums. they deserve playing time way more than all those sh*tty cash money/no limit bling bling 'rappers' who have no talent whatsoever. some other really good underrated hip hop:
Tha Alkaholiks (new LP 'XO' dropping really soon)
Hieroglyphics, Souls Of Mischief
Living Legends
Swollen Members
Dilated Peoples
CVE

check them out on napster or whatever, you won't be disappointed.

NZ Green. Oh my God. I used to listen to Budgie when I was a kid in the 70's. I am sure that nobody now ever has heard of them. I forgot all about them. I am going go to cd now or amazon.com right now and order me a cd or 2. Thank you so much for reminder me. This is awesome. I know they made a new cd a few years ago. Thank you Thank you . I will smoke a nice big steamroller in honor or this reminder.
