k how does one define talent? is mere memoriaztion of notes and beats talent ? i say talent is when you can make what ever instrament talk or sing come to life. any smuck can memorize notes and where your fingers go on a gutiar etc

it all depends on your definetion and preception of "talent". They are people out there that think briteny spears and other pop sh*t is talented! It all depends on what you the person thinks its "talent". Of course since everyone has different tastes in music of course there opinion on talent is biased.

To me, music talent is all about the love for the music you make. Those that love music, have the best music. Take Ben Harper for example. This guy is all about talent, probaly the most talented musician to ever live!

If you listen to his CD's you will notice this talent of his, in the way he sings and plays the guitar. In fact there were a couple of occurances where ben actually passed out on stage because he was singing and playing to hard, and it took it all out of him!

One of those incidents was a major ordeal because it was the opening to a Dave Matthews concert and it delayed it for over an hour. And the thing that pissed me off about that was MTV news said something like "The Dave Matthews Band recently were delayed for an hour after Ben Harper collapsed." Then i remember them going on about Dave Matthews, it was like they didn't give a fuk about BEN! (This was very recently, the last time Dave Matthews toured).

Talent for me is mostly originality. Bands that can do something that no other band has (successfully) done before, or improve on a genre, have talent. Of course, this has its limits, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

You can do one of two things, I think, to be a talented musician. Either you play your instrument in a creative and unique way with a very high degree of musicianship, whether you studied or not, or you write some amazing songs. Example, Bob Dylan is not an incredible guitarist, but he writes some of the best songs out there, so he's a talented guy. On the other hand, I could care less for some of the songs Neil Peart wrote for Rush, but he's a very gifted drummer, so I consider him talented.
That's why I consider some punk bands to be talented. Can they play their instruments at all? I hope not, otherwise it's not punk, but they write some damn good tunes, which is what that music is all about.
Another way to look at it, if you're true to the music, and realize that it is the greatest and most powerful force in the universe, you'll probably have a lot of talent. If not, then you know where to find those that do.

Something raw and unprocessed that is solely created as art by the artist. Some artists can have talent, and I still can hate the **** out of them. Talent is something that you don't learn, like a skill. You have to have it from the start, whether you know you do or not.

talent is just a subjective thing....but if it sells and makes money..its talented.
if it really contributes artistically...its talented.
if it really gets popular or offensive...its talented.
