How about some Miles Davis? "So What" is probably his most famous song, I'd get that.
Or some Dead? You should probably get something off an album, as live cuts would probably be too long, but try to get "Sugar Magnolia", "Unlce John's Band", or "Truckin' ", they're some of the most classic Dead songs, and some of their best studio stuff.
Phish anyone? "You Enjoy Myself", not their best, but a damn good song, and the easiest way to answer the question, "What does Phish sound like?"
2 more, "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers and "Suite" Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash, both amazing songs that always get me when I hear them.
There are a million others I could list, but it would take forever, and you only have 80 minutes on a CD.
peace

Talking One more thing.

For the last track or second to last I must say:

The Doors - The End

This song always helps me fall asleep. It's one of my favorite Doors songs too.

You should definitely include some Allman Brothers. Good choices would be Melissa, Ramblin' Man, of one of my all time favorite songs, Blue Sky. Just a genuinely happy song with a carefree message and great guitar solos. Also, check out a band called the String Cheese Incident. They're one of the best jam bands out there. "Texas" is probably their best song. I urge everyone to check it out

Or, as far as the Allman's go, how about "Jessica"? It is the happiest song ever written.
The greatest moment of my life was when I saw the Dickey Betts Band at Hookahville. When they were playing "jessica" everyone was dancing and you could just look around and everybody you saw had the biggest smiles on there faces. It was great

Default Dead Thread? Nah...

Yes, ahem, well, I got off my ass and finally got the CD all together. Hey, cut me some slack, I had to edit out crowds clapping and whistling.

Here's the final playlist:
1. Led Zeppelin - The Battle of Evermore. Some really amazing lyrics and trippy harmony. Tolkien fans, check out the lyrics.
2. Eagle-Eye Cherry - Shooting Up In Vain. Real mellow and soothing. Just slides into your head smoothly.
3. Ben Harper - Alone. What can I say? Ben's the best.
4. Radiohead - Karma Police. I think this song made me stoned when I first heard it. I was instantly addicted. For the next 2 weeks I listened to no other song.
5. R.E.M. - Nightswimming. The piano playing just pulls you into the song. And all you have to do is feel yourself floating in water. REALLY peaceful.
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin. I probably included this because I took a trip to Florida for a week with my 7 best buds (8 if you include Mary) and the song spoke volumes.
7. Jimi Hendrix - The Wind Cries Mary. Jimi's just a badass, and you know who Mary is right?
8. Ben Harper - Another Lonely Day. The mellow side or Mr. Harper.
9. The Doors - People are Strange. The Doors are simply amazing. Perfect haunting melody.
10. Ben Harper - The Three of Us. Ben plays melody and harmony on one guitar and at the end of it you realize how awesome it was.
11. Ben Harper - Walk Away. More mellow Ben.
12. Simon and Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence. Great harmony, great feeling.
13. Ben Harper - Waiting on an Angel. More Harper? You damn right. Mellow as ever.
14. The Doors - Riders on the Storm. Haunting guitar. Haunting lyrics. Great music.
15. Ben Harper - Widow of a Living Man. He's just so soothing, I really can't get enough.
16. Ben Harper - Give a Man a Home. I lost my mind with this song.
17. Ben Harper - I Shall Not Walk Alone (Live). Yeah, the studio version is good, but DAMN. If you haven't heard this song off his "Live" CD, you are really missing out.
18. Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out). I was more than addicted to this song. I believe I listed to nothing else for about a month. Way, way, way trippy.

A note on listening methods:
Speakers aren't bad, especially with 4-to-8 of them. What made me really trip was headphones. The music simply fills all your senses and only you and the music exist.

A note on Ben Harper:
If you haven't heard his abilities, you have my sympathies. What an amazing artist. Great vocals, great guitar, and a huge range of genres. I think I heard "Burn One Down" and was hooked...

This was an immensely fun project of mine. I definetely recommend all you mellow stoners make one of your own to float away on.

Enjoy.

Totally agree on Ben Harper, Fade.

I actually heard him first on the radio, sexual healing I think. But I bought Live from Mars and was hooked, especially the acoustic cd. Check out Benharper.net if you never have. Great writings on there.

NO. seriously no.things like this sumtimes jsut make me angry. Do you not own a tv, or radio. They are on muchmusic all the time. Maybe not in the past year, but jeeze where have u been for the last ten years. Whenever they release an album its on the radio and MM constantly, i can tell you right now ive seen hash pipe video about a thousand times.

I dont really like them, but island in the sun is one of the most relaxing chill songs even made. I remember the first time i smoked by myself at home i was listening the radio in teh shower, and that song came on and i was like in a trance.

Anyways, jsut wanted to say seriously, weezer underground. you crazy.
