| ive been listening to some jazz lately like miles davis and big band music like buddy rich (the greatest drummer to ever walk this grey earth).....i usually listen to hard rock or metal but got a bit bored and dowloaded some jazz, i find now that its my favourite music to get stoned with and listen with headphones...the drum bass grooves are almost hypnotic.....any other jazz fans here? | |

| Senior Member ![]() | I don't listen to as much jazz as I should, I only have about 6 or 7 Miles albums (I love miles) and 1 'trane album, but I listen to them a lot. I also really like jazz/rock fusion which you'd probably enjoy coming from a rock background. Check out the band the Mahavishnu Orchestra (trust me, I spelled that right) and especially look for anything off their first album, the Inner Mounting Flame. Some of my favorite tunes are "Noonward Race" and "Vital Transformation" If you thought Buddy Rich was a good drummer, wait until you hear Billy Cobham! He plays faster than you can think! |

| Jazz is some good stuff... where all do you think rock and roll came from, anyways? I like Jazz but i'm not as into it as i could be, you could say. Most of the jazz i hear comes from AM radio, and thus i rarely get to hear the names of artists and such. I know some of the biggies like Miles, Dizzy, etc. but am unfamiliar with many of the better artists. If anyone would like to post some recommendations, i'm sure everyone would benefit ![]() "If you can't be stronger or smarter, be a better wise ass" --Midnite | |

Incredible drummer. Also, check out his album Emergency with the Tony Williams Lifetime. It's a 3-piece, Tony on drums, Larry Young on Organ, and John McLaughlin on guitar (before Mahavishnu, before he played with miles even). Killer stuff, Tony blows me away every time I hear him. |
