Talking

Let it Be
(Lennon/McCartney)

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

But your quote from Frederick Douglas in I guess you would call it your info is very interesting and dead right. Too bad more of us don't have your mentality.

How about Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35 by Bob Dylan? It could be a thinly veiled reference, stoned could be a reference to stoning someone rather than getting stoned. Anyone ever notice what 12x35 is? That's a real odd coincidence considering the term wasn't even being used in 1967.

Thumbs up What about ob-la-di-bla-da?

At the end of the Beatle's song there is:

Well, if you want some fun,
take ob-la-di-bla-da.

What's that a reference to?

And then in A Day In the Life:

Woke up,
fell out of bed,
dragged a comb across my head.
Found my way downstairs
and drank a cup,
and looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat,
made the bus in seconds flat.
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
and somebody spoke and I went into a dream.

Someone told me that Rainy Day women wasn't about getting stoned, but something else. But at the moment I can't remember.

I think ob-la-di-la-da is just a nonsense phrase. I do recall there is a love song that Paul McCartney wrote earlier in the Beatles career which is basically an ode to weed. I forget which one it is though.

"Jo-jo left his home in Tuscon, Arizona, for some California grass."

While NRPS did do Panama Red, it's not there song, it's a standard, but I'm not real sure who originally wrote it. I'll do some more looking and get back to you.
