| Note: I originally posted this on the skunk.com sublime message board, but felt it would have a home here as well. A few minutes ago, the clock rolled over to May 25 here on the east coast. As most of you know, five years ago on this day, we all lost someone very important to us, regardless if you met him or not. Brad Nowell's poetry has changed the way we, the fans of Sublime, look at music, and brought it to a whole new level. He brought happiness to those around him, and to the millions of fans he has around the country. I will never in my life forget all of the times me and my friends just hung around, having nothing to do, listening to 40oz. to freedom or robbin' the hood, singing every song out loud, not giving a **** that we had nothing better to do. Brad brought us together with his music, giving us a common ground. I'll never forget the first time, 7 years ago, when i heard 40oz. to freedom. A friend's older brother had the cd, and i was captivated by this unique stylee i hadn't, and still yet to have, heard anywhere else. Perhaps the one bad thing Brad gave to me was making it hard to find another band to live up to my new expectations. Although never having seen him perform live, i can see him sitting on stage, having a damn good time while i listen to Live At The Firecracker Lounge, talking freely with the people there, showing that it's about more than just playing an instrument and belting out lyrics, it's much deeper than this. It's about feeling the music, and using it to reach a common ground with all of those surrounded by, the music. Brad had a talent for this art, blessing us with something we all now hold dear. Although his addiction may have won the battle over his body, it never did, and never will, take his spirit and his music away from us. Brad, you never really lost the war, the cease fire just came at much too early of a point. You will always be remembered by your fans. Always. peace. matt |

| Yeah what a shame man. I listen to sublime everyday and if im drifting to a bad mood alls it takes is a little 40 oz's to freedom to cheer me up. Id say sublime was going to be the new age doors if they kept going the way they were going. Its a sad loss indeed but at least we have a bunch of awesome songs to listen to in rememberance. Poor guy ![]() Just imagine all of the goodness he would have made if he hadn't gotten addicted to smack! I bet he would be the most liked music artist ever! And to many poeple, he already is!

| Hmmm...all those guys died of either suicide (or murder whatever you believe) or drug ODs. I think alot of it comes from not being popular, but TOO popular especialy in cobains' case. He even publicly stated that he didn't want preppy kids at his concerts. He knew the wrong people were listening to his music. people that cannot relate to it. like kids around here were i live, a 99.9% white farming community, yet the majority of kids listen to rap music, drive around thumpin' it "hard core" trying to impress the other "rydaz" i suppose, listening to music they cannot posibly relate to. Over useage of harder drugs especialy heroine WILL lead to your demise. (now thats a devil towards society more so then marijuana will ever be) I'm not sure if they knew what they were doing, and perhaps what they wanted. or what. because really, once they got up on that stage and played and faced the media and then got into the mainstream, they saw that no one cared for or listened to their music for what it was meant for and meant to be. obviously this would make anyone who realy truly made music because it came from the soul to go into a sad, sad state of deppression. I know the same would happen to me, that's for sure. This really doesn't apply to Bob Marley though. He didn't make "booty" videos, hehe ( buffalo soulja's video is a good video though) |

| Definitely, we've lost a lot of extremly talented people to drugs. Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain (pretty much, even if it wasn't direct), Nowell, Elvis (while I'm not a fan, his talent cannot be disputed), and so many more. But yes, Sublime rocks, it's a shame. | |
