I think it's great that there isn't this big gap between genres anymore.

I can't seem to understand why some subcultures will ONLY listen to rap, or only listen to metal or whatever... I mean, you're not even giving them a chance.

You don't have to totally agree with rap's lyrics or become a gangster to enjoy it.

Not all metal is just hard to be appealing to metal heads. There are some serious bands out there.

You know...I could go on, but I think I've made a point.

Even musicians don't ONLY agree with and listen to their genre.
For example:

Dmx made a song with Marilyn Manson.
Snoop Doggy Dogg has a song with Rage against the machine.
Wu tang clan does too, as well as Cypress Hill.
Maybe that's just because Zack de la Rocha (vocalist of RaTM) is a rapper.

Rage against the machine really opened the hard genre up to hip hop. If it weren't for Rage there would probably be no Limp Bizkit or Crazy Town or any other Rap/Rock groups, in my opinion.

I love all genres, and I've noticed that some of you all do too, but the people I meet out there in the real world seem to be stuck on one genre... Why is that?

Wait, I know why...people are close-minded.

Please excuse my stoned rambling....

I'm sure that in some cases it's because people are "close-minded," but the reason could also simply be that some people just feel comfortable with, relate to or just dig one type of music...it's pretty common. Also, if you grow up in an environment where everyone around you (family, friends, etc) are doing a certain thing (like listening to rap, lets say), there is a high probability that you would begin listening to this too. I mean, this would clarify why most people who grew up in the ghetto listen to rap (not only because they grew up with it but I'm sure also because they can relate to it), etc.....(and I apologize if I've offended anyone with this stereotype). I'm sure this alone seems rather close-minded but once you put yourself in their position, I'm quite certain that you would do the same. For those that listen to different genres of music and are able to enjoy them....well, good for you. There could be a lot of reasons for that as well...a non-restrictive environment, peer/parental influence....etc etc....but my rambling, quite frankly, is already long enough .

The beastie boys were the pioneers of the whole rap/rock thing, way back in '85.

Red face get yer bootscooters outta here!

I love most music but I can't stand country.. I like a few artists but most of the stuff out now is really watered-down and useless. I can admit, however, when a country artist has talent. That doesn't happen too often nowadays.

I am not a huge rap fan but I can respect a lot of artists like Snoop. I really do not like Puff Daddy because he samples far too much. Its almost as if the guy can't come up with anything for himself!

I even like Eminem!

As for country: keep it away from me!

And Britney Spears has absolutely no talent besides looking hot for the men and establishing totally inappropriate and impossible standards for young girls.

Peace.

If there is anything I hate it is this new R&B pop crap, like Destiny's Child. It's all so awful, unoriginal and repetitive.

New R&B, pop and really moronic rappers (i.e. Eminem) really bug me. They really have no talent. With pop it's all sexual based and we know sex sells. New R&B as BD stated is just repetive, like in Destiny's Child Song Survivor, they say that stupid word so many times! Moronic rappers say really dumbass trying to be gangster crap, like I'm gonna take my MAC-10 (Spelling?) and blow their f*cking heads off, I mean I can say that do I get paid 8 million a year? Where is good old music when they actually wrote their own songs *sigh*.....

The only music I hate is stuff with no soul, which is basically everything you see on MTV. People who write music so it can be a hit and make them rich and famous rather than because of their genuine love for it.

And to the person who said they don't like country, that crap you see on CMT isn't real country. Check out some Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline. You should also check out this stuff which is labeled "alternative country" (I really hate calling it that, but that's the term others use). It usually combines country with indie rock, Beatles-esque melodies and weirdness, and sometimes it sounds like old-school stuff like what I mentioned above but from a modern perspective. The only 2 bands I really know are the Old 97's and Wilco (pick up Summerteeth, it's awesome).

I dont like courty music, it sucks major time, except for Willie Nelson he´s got some good stuff. I dont like Rap, well I dont hate it, but if its got some rock in it i like it, like Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys. I like every type of Rock
Surf Rock
Punk Rock
Oldies
Metal
Hip-Hop (not every thing)
From Elvis to Slipknot, that what i like!!
But i dont like Pop Rock like Oasis (I HATE THEM!!!!)
And i´m not even going to start on Britney Spears, the only good thing about her is her boody! Shake those Mellons Brit. WOO HOO!!
BTW, those "bling, bling" rappers, whats your problem?? Can you rap about something that is not heavy chested and large butt-ed women and money? Geez..
