| This may be a rather fluffy thread, but no one else is posting anything interesting, so here goes: Two part question: 1. Who was your favorite member of the Greatful Dead? 2. If your answers differ, who was your favorite keyboardist for the Dead? Phil Lesh was my favorite member of the Dead. He by far had the greatest appreciation for a variety of music, and he seemed to be the most easy-going and approachable member. My favorite keyboardist has to be Keith Godchaux. His work behind the grand piano was unparalleled through the Dead's lifespan, even if he did bring the most undesirable element (Donna) into the band. PS: Is it just me, or has the volume of posts tapered off significantly in the past few weeks? | |

| Gotta agree with the dedbr, for all practical purposes, Jerry was the Dead. That why they didn't carry on after he left us. Phil I've always loved too, his unique style of bass playing adds a sound to the Dead that they would have lacked with any other bassist. I also love Mickey Hart, he and Bill could really hold down that bottom end while everyone else could go off. As far as keyboardists go, gotta go with Pigpen just 'cause it's him. My favorite period of the Dead is '68-'70 when he was still alive and in (fairly) good health. Keith has his moments too, but they were just missing something without that fatty fatty ogan sound. The piano's nice and all, but sometimes you just want an organ (and is there anything in this world that sounds better than a Hammond B-3? I submit that there is not). Anyway, that's my couple cents.

| Pigpen for keyboardist, which also seems to be the general concensus. If not just for his skills, look at the guy! I'm torn up to as is my favourite member, they all are collectively grate, but I'd have to say Hunter or Wier..or..Lesh...or I can't decide.

| Jerry obviously Pigpen was so cool. He was the blues. The government wasnt handing out LSD, it was called Acid Test, It was when LSD was legal, everyone would get together, and trip. The dead was the house band.
