See I know what your saying bout the whole epitaph/fat thing. But i think epitaph is the worst record label in the world. They have the ****tiest bands on there, and its just gay. I like other bands other than those, but most people like afi and anti flag, but to be honest, I like the music they play, but dammit, I just cant get passed the whole singers sounding like girls. I really hate girl punk bands (no offense to girls) Yeah Good Riddance is the ****. I dont know if you saw them on a bad night, cuz when I went to one of their shows, they were sweet. They blew away the other 2 bands there. I liked H20 alot more when they werent on Mca, now I dont even listen to them. Anyone here ever heard of Ensign? they are pretty bad ass. Hey jones, whats your favorite Good Riddance cd? Mine is A comprehensive guide to modern rebellion.

too bad you feel that way about Epitaph right now. They're probably the best punk label happening at this time. With Agnostic Front, International Noise Conspiracy, Filthy Thieving Bastards, Lars Frederiksen, the list goes on and on. They were even cool enough to add Tom Waits to the line up. It's such a great label... seems like it's grow up a little bit too. The bands on that label appeal more to older audiences, which is cool with me. I thought I was getting too old for that stuff.

seen Ensign a couple of times. Don't particularly care for them. I grew out of hardcore a while back so that stuff doesn't really interest me much. Hardcore was better back in 1991. Today it seems like it's a dime a dozen. At least in my opinion. I'm the only one who feels that way, though.

Best Good Riddance is probably Ballads. Comprehensive is a close second. I don't think I caught them on a bad night, either. My little brother rolled out to their show when it was up around him (I was in Florida, he was in New Hampshire at the time) and he said the same thing. He was very disappointed by their live show. AFI, who opened, were pretty weak too... I wound up liking them later on, though. When you've seen as many shows as I have, your standards bar is pretty high.

The whole H2O fiasco on MCA is ridiculous. My brother and I got an advanced copy of that album to review and it we just sort of laughed at it when we listened. It's so sad to see how deep they have sank. It was like when Sheer Terror got signed to MCA. They wound up producing a very weak album. H2O seems to have a zombie following that will buy anything, so I'm sure it's selling well.

yeah, punk is definetly the ****. oi bands are dope, but to be quite honest they aren't my favorite. i really like emo stuff, the get up kids in particular. if you guys ever get a chance to check em out, do it. the stuff they sing about is kind of girly, but their playing is really good. plus, if you're havin lady problems, the lyrics make you feel better

Wow, how can you have a discussion on punk and not mention Bad Religion? Besides playing damn good music and having intelligent lyrics, they started one of the biggest punk labels - Epitaph. AFI, Pennywise, and Rancid (everything BEFORE "Life Won't Wait") are also great. No other punk bands that I *really* like yet.

Good punk bands must have:

* intelligent lyrics that deal with something important (what punk started out as and should be)

* good music (doesn't matter if it's traditional punk music or not)

* a good vocalist ('cause I can't stand ones that _scream_ instead of sing)

* oh yeah, and don't over-mix your records. That's what I really hated about the latest Bad Religion album. Todd Rundgren was a huge mistake.

"It used to be, if you got on-stage and screamed into a megaphone and smashed a typewriter with a sledgehammer, you were punk. But now you're art-rock or whatever... " - Jay Bentley

"Punk rock is now mainstream and you can't fix that. It's time to stop worrying about the community that doesn't exist and be more concerned about liking bands for the right reasons because maybe they have something important to say, not what label they are on." - Brian Baker
