| me and punk rock go way back. I have a pretty low opinion of the stuff these days but I still find new bands to listen to now and then. as for Ska, never really been into it. There's not a lot of good stuff and most of it sounds identical. If I do listen to Ska I'm playing The Specials. Good stuff there. And one of the best cross over acts ever, The Clash. A little ska-ish reggae and a lot of punk rock. my recent "punk rock" playlist (though it's mostly all post-hardcore and emoish pop): The Ataris Getup Kids Alkaline Trio Waterdown Grade Saves The Day AFI At The Drive In (arguably a punk band) Glassjaw Hot Water Music and a lot of old post punk, Bauhaus and Jesus and Mary Chain mostly. | |

Good Riddance is a great band. I've been into them since the United Cigar 7". We're suffering from a severe lack of politically motivated bands and they just kick ass on that tip. Best album is easily Ballads of the Revolution. I wasn't much into Operation Phoenix much at first but it's slowly sinking in. For years I always wanted to see this band but by the time I heard they had a show in my area, it was too late. Finally I got to see them with Fury 66 (who did a Gorilla Biscuits cover. Sadly, I was the only one in the club who knew it. Dates me a bit). Sadly, I got really hyped for them and they turned out to put on a really weak live show. Such energized music and Russ Rankin looked like he didn't know what to do on the stage. He looked bored and never engaged the crowd until they dragged some dumb local girl on stage to sing backups. H2O can suck my wang. If ever there's been an over exposed, overrated, over hyped band, they're it. Toby Morse is one of the biggest cocks I've ever had to deal with. He's rock star all the way. Jesus, you think they could write a song that wasn't about their "new york family"? I don't. Argh! here I am venting. Suffice to say, toby Morse is not on my list of people who are cool... as for the rest of the Warped Tour usual suspects, Less Than Jake is the only band that I really care for and I dig those guys. Borders and Boundaries, Hello Rockview and Losing Streak are three tight as hell records and I dig them a lot. They tend to draw a really weak crowd, though. I used to go to every Warped Tour. Since the first one. Things got kind of tedious after a while and it was always on the hottest day of the year, it was a 3 hour drive and I usually only wanted to see one or two bands anyway. Thankfully, press passes kept me from paying. The last one was so weak and corporate I could barely stomach it. Punk rock is being co-opted and has become very fashionable. As cool as a lot of MTV teenage types think punk is, this is the reason it died out back in 78. Too much hype, didn't belong to the people. When ****ing Target is presenting a punk show, I get a little suspicious. So much for the DIY nature of the whole thing. | ||
