Default Spearhead!!!

Michael Franti and Spearhead's album, Stay Human, is the best example of why I, a caucasion Australian girl, resent America.

I have known and seen the influence of Americas' ego on the world, and the issue of marijuana is an example of how it's own citizens aren't safe from their government.

That said, Spearhead's album portrays things about America that American's also don't like, and addresses the issue of medical marijuana succinctly, stylishly and subtly.

Check it out.

PS Sorry about the anti-US thing, but at the moment I feel like its un-Australian to be Un-American, and that gives me the shi*s.

Friend of mine on line here just introduced me to Sound of a Down

Is Spearhead american or australian? I think the word resent is kinda the wrong word choice or maybe I'm not understanding what you mean and I want to becasue I think communication is the only thing that separates us from the Inhuman Creeps in the world whatever flag they are hiding under.

Default They're American

It says in the insert that the album was recorded at The Sugar Shack, San Francisco, CA.

The album is set out like a radio broadcast, with the 'djs' commenting on a local (fictitious) political event. Woody Harrelson lends his talents, and it is so honest about a couple of things in America. Like Medical Marijuana, and The Death Penalty.

When I said I 'resent' America, what I mean is, since I was old enough to think for myself I have seen the American influence in Australia and over the rest of the world.

So many of our big name brands in Australia, like Vegemite, for crying out loud, is owned by big Companies, usually American. One word, McDonalds. Have you been to India or places like it and seen how innappropriate it is for the Americans to pushing their diet and everything else on the rest of the world.

Americans say they are all about peace, but most of the bombing that's been done in the world in the last 50 years has been done by Americans. Genocide has been restricted inside the borders of America before now, but with this conflict, I see and hear Americans talk about wiping the Taliban away. Conquering the Middle East, and converting them to (oh my god) democracy.

In my opinion Democracy is just an excuse Leaders use to act as Totalitarians, I mean do we really have any control over the decisions they make after we've voted for them?

I resent America because Australia is a young nation, with a culture that is still being defined, yet we are bombarded with images and ideals from the US. Through our media, through the training that everybody receives when they get their first job, at McDonalds, or Coles, and the list goes on.

Australia is not America's little sister or brother. We don't appreciate our leaders sending us off to fight wars for America, before discussing it in Parliament.

I also have a problem with the fact that plea deals, like that that go on in the US court system, is happening in Australia, causing havoc for the victims of crime. As well as compensation cases getting out of hand, similar to that in America.

We are going the same way as America, here in Australia, because we appear to have both been adopted by America, and adopted their principles ourselves. It sucks.

Sounds more like you are dissappointed that Australia has become a member of the international economic community.

The United States and the American way of life cannot be simply defined by McDonalds. Even with cheese. Australia is very much its own nation, and is very different from the USA. Until you visit the USA and see what I mean it will be difficult for you to grasp a concept it is very difficult to describe in words.

As for control over elected officials in a Democracy once elected to power, there are very concrete checks and balances to protect against totalitarianist regimes, such as the Taleban. Among these are the right to Vote.

Default Thanks

Thanks for your input on this.

You're right, I have issues and I don't know who to direct my annoyance at. America, being so big, is an easy target.

However, I see and hear a lot of America and American accents in all forms of Media, Advertising and Entertainment. Australian ideals are easily transferred for American ones as far as Advertisments go, and that's an area that I watch on a sociological level, because I think that a lot of subconscious ideas are picked up there.

I'm not an economist, nor have I studied Business or Economics, but there has been so many shady deals over the years in America with the Mafia that I don't "believe" in the Stock Market. I think it's a con, legalized gambling.

I am not a dangerous person, I am a 27 year old pensioner, who suffered a head injury, which is where I get my wide mind.

Meanwhile, check out that album 'Stay Human' by Michael Franti and Spearhead. I think you might like it.

I've been thinking about that comment about Australia being a member of the international economic community.

Maybe you can understand how even a country like Australia can resent the US, when:

The US cuts their imports of Australian meats to 10 - 20 % of its former amount, through internal tarrifs. So that has badly hurt our farmers, even though we, and New Zealand have the best meat in the world. (That's not subjective, ask a top chef)

A week before Sep 11, America was supporting Indonesians (many of whom are either Muslim and Afghani) and supplying them with weaponry - EVEN THOUGH Australia has been keenly aware since the second world war that countries such as Indonesia, Borneo, Malaysia, China, Korea and Japan are all interested in making Australia - Asian Territory. They arrive in their boatloads.

And now, America gets a little of her own medicine back, and suddenly we are expected to deplete our military of resources in order to fight a battle we didn't start, and we don't have an opinion on, except to say, Terrible loss of life, and which American made up the term Collateral Damage, cause its crass.

I am really enjoying being honest about these things, cause I've been so angry about it all my life. I can't and don't believe, that Americans don't feel angry at their own government, too. We all know the story of hemp, it is a classic example of everything I am saying.
