| I never heard any of my friends coment about his band. I have heard only one or two of their tunes, and last night i decided i was going to download some of their stuff. Well 1st i downloaded Les Claypool bass solo, i figured if the solo had a mp3 of his own it was prolly good stuff....WOW! can this dude slap or what?! I imediately(sp?) downloaded like 10 songs. All of them are awsome. Especially "Wyona's Big Brown Beaver" "Jerry was a race car driver". The bass solo on "Tommy the Cat" is f*cking awsome!!! It made me rethink my opnion that Flea from the chili peppers was the best bass player around now. Les' voice is also very funky and sounds kinda like a "red neck". What are their current status? Touring?over?dead?recording? say baby do you want to lay down by my side say baby do you want to lay down with me say baby say babbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyy! PS. "The devil when down to georgia" is like a duel of banjos, but with fiddles!Much better then the "the devil went to jamaica" parody!

| Les is a monster bass player, but far from the best as far as technical precision goes, IMHO. Check out Victor Wooten, either his solo stuff or his stuff with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I actually haven't heard much of his playing, but he's compared to guys like Jaco Pastorius. Dig some of his stuff if you get the chance, he can do some amazing things with his bass. He also did some kick ass stuff with Weather Report. Also check out les' current project oysterhead. It's a supergroup with Stewart Copeland from the Police and Trey Anstasio from Phish. It's probably closer to Primus than either the Police or Phish, but Trey and Stew both make they're themselves known. After buying the album and seeing the show I still don't know if I like it, but it's certainly very interesting. Also dig Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, his first foray into the jamband scene, interesting group.

| Les is the man, of course, but I really don't dig Primus all too much. FFFB has got some thick groove, but I'm not too up on Oysterhead, either. If Phil, Mike, and Les all got on stage at one time.....aaaaaaahhh....can you imagine the bombs coming out of those woofers? | |

| I think that would create some sort of bass vortex which would create some sort of wormhole to a parallel dimension. Or perhaps something even more sinister? God help us all if they'd play the other one! |

| If you liked les in Primus. youve got to check out oysterhead. i saw them recently in gainesville. it was a great show. Les had an incredible bass solo and then stepped out and played the banjo. It was unreal. If you want a show or some mp3's let me know. | |

| Ooh, Les is super amazing. I really dig Primus and most of Les's other projects. Oysterhead is a little jammy for my tastes, and overall somewhat of a disappointment, but the cd is good nonetheless. Flea's got it too, but you can't mention him without mentioning the utterly mind blowing bassist Mike Watt (of Minutemen and fIREHOSE fame). Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime is some serious smoking music, too. Wooten is cool, too, and I really like some of that Bela Fleck stuff. Jazzy-ish banjo music, who woulda thought it could sound that good?? Not I, said the fly! Hehehe ...back to Primus. I recommend any albums, but you should definitely check out Sailing the Seas of Cheese. If you're into Pink Floyd, you might want to find Les Claypool's Frog Brigade or whatever they're called doing Pink Floyd's Animals live. It is done very well, and quite close to the original, which is cool, but I think it would have been better had they gone off on their own, sounding totally different. Oh well. I loved it anyway ![]() q. | |

| Les Claypool is a god among men. As a bassist, lemme tell you: that motherf**ker's got some skills. This guy's incredibly fast, accurate and plays on a completely other level than other bassists. If you ever get a chance to see him live or footage of him live, your mind will be completely blown. He's definitely better than Flea, even though Flea is a wicked bassman himself. The best bassist I've ever heard though is Cliff Burton, Metallica's original bassist. Download the song "Anestesia (Pulling Teeth)" by Metallica, and you'll see what I mean. If you hear that, mind you that Cliff's not using a pick. That's all his fingers. And of course, a distortion and wah pedal. DoritosMan -- Here's what I recommend you downloading: Is It Luck? Mr. Knowitall My Name Is Mud DMV Hamburger Train Mr. Krinkle Professor Nutbutter's House of Treats De Anza Jig Bob's Party Time Lounge Pudding Taine Lacquerhead Electric Uncle Sam Just a few suggestions. ![]() --K. |

| Primus is amazing, great music if you have a quality sound system in your car because you will be bumping. Add Ms. Bailen (sp?) to that list. It's number two on the "Tales from the punchbowl". That is personaly one of my favoriot Primus songs.
