I'm sorry, but music is music.... I really don't care about about any hidden messages in music or what the lyrics really mean, what kind of people listen to it, etc. etc. I like the damn music. If it has real meaning behind the music, all the better.

I think SOAD is a great band, love their music, and it had meaning to it. But if it didn't I would still like the music. I like Slipknot. Everyone is talking about how horrible the album is now no one likes them anymore. I still like the band, just not in love with their last album. I really don't care or pay attention to pop, never liked that stuff. I think I'm getting into some hip hop, but maybe that's just my wandering ears. I dunno.

What kind of people the musician portray themselfs to be doesn't mean anything. They could real assholes or down to earth. Anything. And untill you get to know them personaly you'll never know. You can always go by what you see or make judgements but that means nothing.

I think some people need to learn to laugh at themselves. I highly doubt deadhed really thinks that all the folks who listen to harder-type music are going to kill themselves in the next couple years. It's a joke! Laugh, have a good time! Whatever gets your feet moving and puts a smile your face!

Ooh lord...my less-than-tactful post has thrown me into the malestrom.

TC: I looked up the lyrics to the songs you pointed to, and I stand corrected. They are a band with very focused (and well placed) rage unlike Slipknot and company. I still think that the hardcore trend is gonna go away soon, though, because even if the band is "legitimate", I just don't think that people are in the mood for angry music right now (esp. after Sept 11). I don't see System CDs selling to 14-year old girls anymore. I think that the sound will survive, but get less and less airplay on MTV. Supplanting them on MTV will be bands like Nickelback (nnoooo) and other sacchrine rock.

Schwa: Come to Alabama There's a WP sticker on the back of every Suburban right next to the Tau Kappa Epsilon decal.

Footlong: I gotta go with danknuggets and know_your_weed on this one... All he raps about is his bentleys and how he likes champange. Puff Daddy is rap designed for easy consumption.

super_woman: Good for you! You have expressed my sentiments exactly. I just think that the kind of music you like will fall out of the mainstream.

I know the people you're talking about. "Hey lets go to the show." "Who's playing?" "Who cares there will be X." Some people come just for the drugs. I don't hang out with those people too much. BTW, I knew you were making a joke but I just had to say something since my car has got so many stickers.

no problem deadhed. If you're anything like me (and I know you are) then you've gotten made fun of quite a few times for your musical tastes( What exactly pisses people off about hippies so much? Do people not realize how wrong it is to say something like "I'm grateful jerry's dead"? Nobody would say that if a blood-related family member died, but other family doesn't count, I guess).

But I digress, I've been easily provoked by less in the past, and I could tell where everything was headed.

Well my personal opinion of the future of mainstream music is that it will become more and more corperate untill the artists arent really artists,they are those dumb people in commercals trying to sell you sh*t (with a cheesy and annoying upbeat sound too).
They had pretty much already done this with great success in the mainstream hip hop scene (ex:all the bling bling rappers out there) and the pop scene is already a billboard so that the people who are interested in it buy thier stuff (the corperate backers).
Anyway there could be a completely different turn of events, mainstream music dies out and the underground comes up (anything underground is good) And the people who do music dont do it for money,they do it because they want to do it (shocking idea in the mainstream music industry).
