I used to play guitar for about 4 1/2 years. I still have a Fender Stratocaster/Squire, with a little Traynor Amp...I've been playing the drums for the past 5 1/2+ years though.

My father has been playing guitar for 40 years, as well as playing many other instruments (and has been smoking marijuana for over 37 years (1965.) My mother has also been playing guitar for over 30 years. You could say I come from a musical family
My father was instructed guitar by David Wilcox for over 2 years in Toronto, as he decided to take my father under his wing.

On the topic of great guitar:
May I just say I believe Kirk Hammett to be the number one guitarist of all time, I have been listening to Metallica for over 10 years, and he astounds me. Fastest solo ever heard: Dyer's Eve. Any faster and it would be one solid tone. Give it a listen.

Peace all, I'm stoned.

I've been playing guitar for hmm...9 months now. Started this summer, same time I started toking. Best time of my life. People say I'm good for how long I've been playing. I've got a crappy Washburn acoustic that I started with and a Mexi Strat I got a few months ago. Just learned Zep's Rock and Roll today. Heard one of those damn Cadillac commercials and remembered I wanted to learn it. Rock on.

i've been playing for roughly 2 years. i have an OLP MM1 (EB MM copy), a nameless classical acoustic customized by superglueing the bridge down and stringing it with steel strings, and i have a behringer gx110 30w amp w/ dig-fx that i run into a 50w karaoke machine that i use to record and add vocals. by december '02 i hope to add a 50w marshall tube amp, a fender stratocaster, a les paul smartwood, an ibanez soundgear bass w/ a 30w amp and maybe a new acoustic (martin or a nice yamaha). im gonna try to get all of this by the fact that i will be receiving money all within a 3 month period around that time (my b-day is in sept... in oct i get a PFD for $1800 for living in alaska, and christmas is in dec)

i dont think im really good at playing, but i also dont try. im stuck on learning music theory right now, so i only play cover stuff. i do play alot of incubus and sublime though.

Hey i just got a new acoustic! it was an early b-day present, my b-day is in sept too. it happened to be on sale so my mom went ahead and got the thing for me. its a martin D-15, the all mahogany model. this thing lovesbluegrass. It gets the nershi tone(from string cheese incident) perfectly. i love it!

Well what do you mean they arn't talented musicians. Sure Kurt and Krist weren't that good but Dave Grohl was one of the best rock and roll drummers of the 90's. They were more creative than anything.

Because any guitarist can play any nirvana song after a few months of lessons, if even that. Not that they aren't good tunes or anything, they just aren't difficult to play. It's kind of one of the things punk music was founded on.

schwa- haha, martins are expensive guitars.... i would seriously love to have one, but since i buy all my own stuff, i may just go with a martin-sigma... those are only like $200-$300.

im going to elaborate on what bailey said too... kids who started playing guitar to play nirvana songs (or if you're placing it today.. kids who start playing to play blink-182 songs :::shudders::: ) really got stuck in a hole after a while. nirvana and blink-182 both use simple, 3-chord progressions, usually in a moveable box formation, and they are played as power chords. so that means when that kids knows every nirvana/blink song, he is stuck to playing powerchords because he doesnt know enough about chord formation and progression to make up anything else or play anyone else. if a guitar player wants to learn those songs, thats fine because they are still good songs, but they should atleast learn to play them in barre-chord and open-chord positions as well.
