| I think Jimi Hendrix sounds hella good, and he sounds even better when you're stoned... Something like Purple Haze, All Along The Watchtower, Fire, Voodoo Child, etc, etc. There's so many...

| One of things that i always thought was most interesting about Jimi was that if you listen to him a lot you can used to how good he is. But if you take a break from him and go back you realize why he is revered so much. You can see that every note he played was perfect, even the mistakes. ![]() The other thing you have to keep in mind is when he came out. At that time, what was going on? You had the Beatles, the Stones, the Byrds, the Mamas and the Papas, all good bands with good music, but Jimi just came from a completely different planet. He changed everything and opened a lot of people up to music they never would have heard without Jimi. And I'm not just talking about the blues. Jimi improvised heavily and that had to come from jazz. Jimi was a genius, up there with Miles Davis. I cannot help but wonder what he would have done had he lived longer . . .

| .. good bands with good music, but Jimi just came from a completely different planet. He changed everything and opened a lot of people up to music they never would have heard without Jimi. to say he came from a completely different planet would be a little extreme because he was basically playing the same three chords that everyone else was playing . the style was basically the same: blues based rock music. to say he changed everything .eh. i would say the beatles changed everything. then when the beach boys made pet sounds , that started a new direction in the late sixties. the impetus for the psychedelic musical movement came from the back and forth dialogue between the beatles and the beach boys. | |

| Compared to the Beatles and the Beach Boys Jimi was a martian. Yeah it was the same 3 chords, but what he did with those three chords was leaps and bounds ahead of what anyone was doing at the time in rock and blues. And where do you think the Beach Boys and the Beatles got the influence to go psychedelic? They certainly didn't start it. It was from bands like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape. The San Francisco Psychedelic scene. |
