| when im high at my house just listening to music, i have the urge to create my own music. at times i will write my own rhymes but i lack the skills and/or technology to make my own beats, etc. do any of you know any good music making programs to get me started? when i listen to music and im stoned i just feel like channeling all those thoughts i have into my own music so other people can hear it. sometimes there are messages i want to get across and i feel music is the perfect way, but i am so limited at what i can do. if anyone knows of anything that can get me started i would really appreciate it. | |

| Two great programs for making music in the abscence of a musical instrument (or for making techno music) are Impulse Tracker and The Free Tuareg 1.5 you can get The Free Tuareg 1.5 for free from http://www.brambos.com Impulse Tracker, is also free at http://www.noisemusic.org/it Tuareg is relatively easy to use compared to Impulse Tracker.(took me about an hour to figure out Tuareg and a few weeks to master Impulse Tracker) Impulse Tracker is tedious and difficult to learn but quite rewarding... but you can make tons of musical ideas come to reality in each one. Both come prepackaged with some sounds... and each program has its advantages and disadvantages. I wrote this song in Impulse Tracker combined with Hammerhead Rhythm station (which was an early version of Tuareg) http://www.zinn-x.com/brokenglass.MP3 |

| You can use use the output of Tuareg as an input for Impulse Tracker. I personally prefer Impulse Tracker for its pattern editor which allows you to program complex musical phrases including volume shifts, pans, pitch shifts, etc that Tuareg just doesn't allow you to do. So I guess Tuareg is better for beats, Impulse Tracker is better for music, and if you want your music to have a good beat, you can use the beat you make in Tuareg in Impulse Tracker. :-) Hope that helps |

| Try Jeskola Buzz, its pretty easy after you get used to the commands. I made just one "techo" tune. My song is pretty sh!tty compared with my friend does with it, you can do some great stuff using it, you can add vocals and lots of other stuff if you have a mic.

The only trick is synchronizing the beat of the vocals to the beat of the song. It helps to have a beat playing off a tape or a keyboard quietly while you sing so your singing is perfectly synchonous to the tempo. Also, if your singing is supposed to start at the beginning of the measure of the song, and you want to play the vocal sample at the beginning of that measure, make SURE that the vocals start immediately at the beginning of the wave file... ie. no empty space before you get into the singing... else there will be a delay and it will be off beat. | |
