Default Spring Hookahville '02

I know theres another thread open about this ville, but I wanted everyone tosee this because the line up this year is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!

For those who don't know, Hookahville is a festival held every memorial day and labor day weekend by ekoostik Hookah. Spring ville is May 24-26 (i;m pretty sure thats right, memorial day weekend friday-sunday) at Buckeye Lake Music Center, located about 15 minutes east of Columbus, OH (check out www.ekoostik.com for directions). Heres the line up that has been announced so far. Ekoostik Hookah closes Friday and Saturday, as usual. The rest of the weekend features, Railroad Earth, Umphrey's McGee, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, and Medeski, Martin, & Wood. RRE and MMW were just announced. I know some people from the forums are gonna try and make it, if anyone else is gonna be there let me know and we'll hook up and burn a bowl or two.

Every 10 feet you'll be offered something, nuggets or other stuff. There are some cops, but they're more to keep the peace, and since everyone is smoking (or screwed out of their mind on various other substances) there's not much they can do. Last hookahville there was a guy following a cop around with a joint, "just smoke it man, c'mon, just take one hit!" Nothing happened to him.

There's only about 3 or 4 cops for what will probably be around 12,000 people, so you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Be real careful on the drive home though, follow the speed limit the whole way.

I still try to look out for cops because i don't really want to shove it in their face if they're being cool and not busting people. i have heard of people getting busted for dealing, but just keep you ears open as people will warn each other when cops are around. I've been to five hookahvilles and you can toke right in the open no problem. Like Bailey said, the cops are there to keep the peace, but thats not even a problem. I have never seen a fight at a hookah show and i've been to 30+. They are more there to try and prevent theft, which happens at bigger festivals like that.

I have a friend that works for Acoustic Productions doing mail order tickets for hookahville and organizing the thing. She says the cops in that area just want things to run smoothly. Even if someones freaking out, they'll just put them somewhere until they can deal with themselves. But do be careful on your way home.

BTW, mailorder tickets are now on sale for $60, $70 at the door. www.ekoostik.com

Just quick question:

How are the regular concerts? Security wise.... Are you able to smoke openly?

It depends on the venue. They play the Newport a lot in Columbus and they are dicks there. i can't even count the number of people I've seen kicked out of there for smoking. But I've never been kicked out. You just gotta keep an eye out and do it in a smart place, the middle of the floor, for example, because you're surrounded by people. But then i go to the Agora in Cleveland and people are toking at setbreak, with the lights on and everything. You just gotta keep an eye out for security and see if they are patrolling. I've been to shows at the newport where security just decided not to patrol so everyone was toking.

Just a quick little anecdote, I once saw a hookah show in columbus, Indiana at columbus north high school, yes, in a high school. I was talking to a guy at setbreak who said that he's gotta toke at least one hit. So during the encore, Loner, during the line, "I just like to get high, and high, anf high, and high, and high , and HIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGHHHHERRRRR!!!!!!", he hit a bowl and blew the smoke right in front of Dave Katz (singer/keyboardist/acoustic guitarist). And then he ducked down and scampered off.
