radiohead... hehe

mogwai is pretty good...similar to beta band's really mellow stuff...also belle & sebastian kinda sound like them. But radiohead sounds exactly like them (or vice versa) in my opinion.

Well according to AMG (www.allmusic.com) the similar artists listed for The Beta Band are:

Rome, Broadcast, Radiohead, The Verve, Spiritualized, Kid Loco, Scott 4, Arnold, Alfie, Orange Can, The Avalanches, Tortoise, DJ Shadow etc. etc.

None of which I really listen to, except for maybe Radiohead and Verve. A mate's really into Tortoise and swears by em so they might be worth a lookin. Not really my cuppa tea - not much into Beta Band either though.

P.S. saw BRMC at Finsbury, they were schmokin!

Check out Clinic, they're in the same genre and REALLY good. I haven't heard all their stuff, but their CD "Internal Wrangler" is great, as is some newer stuff.

Depends on what attracts you to the Beta Band, I guess. If it's complex melodies that are just awesome, try the Shins, Thingy, Aereogramme, and Elliott.

Check out websites like pitchforkmedia.com and epitonic.com for lots of free, reliable mp3 downloads. Especially epitonic. They rock. I know you can download a couple Thingy mp3s there, and there's tons of other indie rock/pop bands too. I've spent hours just downloading mp3s, clicking on links to related bands, and repeating the process.
