does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement application? I mainly use AG, Kazaa etc. to hunt down techno/trance/etc remixes and sets that arent really available commercially. I'd prefer one that doesn't install a ton of spyware crap on my PC either.

WimMX is ok for cheezetrance. KazaaLite is like Kazaa w/o the spyware.
If you're looking for rare tekno or trance, get the 12" at your local DJ store. Or online record sites like bangintunes, juno, sattelite, htfr... etc... etc...

Nothing will ever beat napster. Easy to use, find anything you want, no spy-ware and it was FREE! I got kazaa, but i hate it. It slows up all my computer, its got nasty pop-up ads that freezes my machine, some stuff is already filtered so you cant find it.

I remember when mp3 could be downloaded from URL, before napster, that was good too. I guess that was 99, not very long ago if you think about it. But mp3 trading has changed a lot since then...

I like furthernet for shn's, but it eats up a lot of resources, really slows down my machine.

I personally liked AudioGalaxy out of all of them. You could find anything using it and had a decent chance of being able to download it. The problem I've always had with WinMX is that you might see something listed but when you go to download it it either never starts, times out or some fool cancels the download on you halfway through.

I've installed Kazaalite and it has no spyware.

If you have a problem finding kazaalite, install normal kazaa and then search for kazaalite and download it, then unistall kazaa, run lavasoft's ad-aware (found on download.com) and remove all spyware crap and then install kazaalite. if you run ad-aware soft againd you shouldnt find any spyware... if you do then kill it.
