| Who was more important to the Pink Floyd? If you listen to early pf and Syd's solo work, its almost the same thing. Trippy music, sounds that ''melt'', happy songs, songs that you can obsily tell he was trippin hard on some crazy psychedelic drug. Like 'Effervescing Elephant', just listen to the thing, he was tripping his brains out when he thought of this. I really like his solo stuff, most are cheery songs easy to play on the guitar. As for Waters He is 'darker', his songs are depressing i mean listen to The Wall and Animals its one sad song after another, 'Mother' has to be one of the coolest but one of the saddest songs in TW (Mamma will make all your nightmares come true). And hes turned pf into one crazy mix of sounds like Dark Side of The Moon, i dont know if they ever played DSotM live, its way too complex to play live. Sorta like Beatles after they started doing lsd. who do you guys like better? Its hard to pick but i like Barretts sound more, Waters is awsome too, but a tad too sad.

| syd barret is INSANE... he used to consume LSD like it was captain crunch, cuz of that I think he was in a mental institution for a long time, maybe still is, dunno... his work is so out there, that to me is almost stupid. i dont like pink floyds early work very much, cuz of that. Roger water is a genious... Maybe one of the best lyricists in the history of rock and roll. The wall is all about him and his rock and roll stardom middle-life crisis. brilliant piece of work. the problem with him is that he never got over the death of his father in the second world war. i guess he was a kid when that happened and its represented in his work. listen to most of his lyrics post-DSOTM and you will see the theme war, death or fatherhood all over it. In final cut, pink floyds last album with waters, david gilmor said " oh no, here he comes again with his dead father moanings..." needless to say they split ways short after that... right now pink floyd is just making cover albuns of themselves.. and roger waters is in desperate need of weed.. my opinion |

| I'll pick Waters over Barrett (isn't he dead now?). Although Waters is darker, there is noone better (imo) for toasting a bowl and listening to his work. I don't remember what album it came from, but Pink floyd actually had a hit without Waters, and I actually liked it. Btw, which one is Pink? (sorry, had to) Plains |

| Pipers at the Gates of Dawn, has to be one of pf best work. 1st of all its their 1st album. And its got Barrett all over it. Barrett is still alive, from what i read hes into gardening and painting. Ummagumma is one weird album (im pretty sure Waters was still in pf). There is no way you can play Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict (whew!) live, its just a bunch of weird noises, no guitars no voices, no nothing.... The final cut is just one big rant (but i still like it) |

| gotta be syd all the way. crazy, possibly...genius, definetly. his works are great, they make you think. only waters song i like is echoes, which is great. waters is too into the war and death for me. it is all good for smokin', but syd knows how to use/not use words. check out 'interstellar overdrive' | |

| Check some of Syd's solo work, its amazing. most stuff is just him and a guitar. Listen to Octpus and The Bob Dylan Blues both are great tunes. |

| "Me looks up at Syd Barrett poster on wall and begins to type..." Yeh, I have a freakin poster of him. I love his work, he is truley an artist in every way. I just love Pow R. Toc H. on piper...it's track 5 btw interstellar overdrive is really good too, but I really only like the last 3 minutes of it. And no, i don't think he was never in an institution. after he "lost it" he lived with his mother for a while. Roger, while a great artist too, is depressing as hell to listen to. I believe The Wall is really the merging of roger, as the child and Syd, as the adult....it makes sense if you know a litle about the band...and it shows what messed up lives each led. Wish you were here is really beautiful though, in the way the the band creates the album in tribute to syd..and i'll give that to roger for showing a sensitive side....for missing a good friend....even though Have a Cigar and Welcome to the Machine seem like attacks on the record industry and society in general on another note....I believ there is a book or something coming out soon that has the FIRST inteview with syd since he went into exile...like 30 years ago....I can't wait |

| The Wall is so amazing. If you just sit there and listen to the whole thing in its entirity, it is unbelievable. I think Roger Waters is the greatest vocalist of all time. The Trial is my all-time favorite song. "The prisoner who now stands before you was caught red-handed showing feelings, showing feelings of an almost human nature. This will not do." ![]() | |
