Default Portable Music Players

So Christmas is near and my Discman died quite a while ago and i'm looking for a portable music player that'll last me for at least a few years. I was thinking either an MD or MP3 Player and after doing a bit of research i've all but decided I want an MP3 Player. Being so expensive, I want to make sure i'm getting relative value for money. So far, the player taking my fancy is the Mambo X P350.

Does anyone own one of these? Does anyone own another player? How does it compare with the P350 and do you think it's worth the price? Does anyone have any comments on MP3 Players in general or think that an MD is a better option?

I found this useful page that compares 4 top players, and it seems for the cost, the P350 comes out on top.

Meh, I know it might sound like i've already made up my mind but i'm just trying to get as much info. on everything I can before I say for certain where so much money is going to be spent. Thanks in advance for any input.

i got a minidisc (NetMD), 'satisfied' would be a gross understatement. these things are dope, making the MD's themselves does take a little patience however.

I have a nomad jukebox. one of those six gig mp3 players. Except for the size I *love it* and if I'm not mistaken they've gotten a decent bit smaller since I bought it almost three years ago.

by the way, from experience, trust me. go with the mp3 player.

It's worth it just for the fact that you don't ever have to switch discs or make discs or possibly lose discs. You can customize playlists according to your mood and it takes all of a minute.

Having thousands of songs just right there is wonderful. And if you get some speakers you can bring that to a party and you hae a customized playlist

just promise me it won't be dance, techno or pop and I give you my blessings

MP3's are overrated. Its the worst sound quality possible and they cost WAY too much. I picked up a minidisc for 200-250 bucks and it was the best 200 bucks I ever spent. 5 HOURS OF MUSIC! They never skip and are awesome with batteries. The only downside is, if you drop it, its gone. Unless you buy that sports one, but thats like 300 bucks.

I have a nomad jukebox.

Those things would be nice if the HD was smaller. 6 gigs? Thats so over kill, though that didnt stop them from making a 20 gig..... I have over 300 songs, only listen to 100 routinely and the 300 only take up 1.3 odd gigs. 6? Can you even concieve of how much music that is? Now on the other hand, if they sold 1 gig nomads, you can bet your ass I'd buy it over a minidisc.

NetMD's are nice, Im getting one this christmas. I had one of the older models, you had to play every single song to burn them onto the MD But it was worth it in the long run, MD's beat out almost everything.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

Shard: Yeah, it looks like i'm going for an MP3 Player for the reason that I can put ALL my music onto it.....and sorry to break it to you but about 1000 of my 2700 MP3 collection would come under the "Electronica" genre.

Mr.Mojorison: $200-$250 would convert to $400-$500 here, and the player i'm looking at is $671 here. You might be thinking of those "flash memory" MP3 players, which are very expensive, but the one i'm after actually uses a hard drive. My MP3s currently use up 13.5gb of space, and it'd be awesome to be able to take them all around with me where ever I go. The Mambo X jukebox also has direct MP3 recording capabilites so to me, it's got everything I want over an MD except maybe quality sometimes, but that's a minor issue to me.
