Default Anyone here listen to rappers from the South?

I think they had a post for what they call real hip hop so what about rap music from the South or anywhere else?
I know I been deep off in the underground so yall won't know the artist I listen to.
I just think its crazy everytime the NYC hip hop folks say the south aint lyrical and that non of us have lyrical ability or skillz.
Thats just closed minded east coast people or people that closed minded toward NYC rap only but they aint the only ones putin it down. I know we aint got alot of names that people could actually respect from the South and thats cuz the mainstream is all they may know from us.
Face,Bushwick Bill,UGK,3-6 Mafia,EightBall and MJG,Devin the Dude,Juvenile<-these are some of the only known rappers from the south. I aint gonna say these are the most lyrical but they put it down but the mainstream aint never gonna let the raw mcs shine cuz they all off on that wack sh-t.
We got underground talent that is just as lyrical as east coast but they on the underground cuz lyrical ability and skillz doesn't seem to get recognized down here instead the simple lyrics win out over those with deep lyrics.

devin the dude is a ****in joker. you should listen to the song **** you by him, snoop and dr. dre. thats some funny stuff right there. But anyways, id much rather listen to some hard new york rappers like 50 cent or some gangster west coast niggaz like 2pac and eazy e.

Default oh gawd

Those 'big' names you mentioned aren't really that 'big'...I would say out of the 8 names you listed, 0 of them have any talent. The time and effort that goes into 'thug' 'gangsta' rap production is worthless, it's sad. I've yet to hear 1 good song by any of those groups. Juvenile has no lyrical talent at all. I guess it comes down to a matter of taste in music, but to be honest, I see no real talent there. Try listening to...

styles of beyond, atmosphere, mosdef, blackalicious, latryx, trib e,roots,common,el-p,aesop rock just to name a few...

When you listen to thier music there is meaning and effort put into what they talk about...the beats fit the lyrics perfectly...they talk about meaningfull **** using metaphors, symilies(sp?), change tone of thier voice, come up with some crazy scheme to rhyme too...

However, when you listen to that stuff you mentioned, all you hear is money, hoes, pimpin,my 20 inch rims on my escalade, smoking blunts, mackin *****es" and all sorts of other ****...

I think real hip-hop is extremely meaningfull and has substance, the marjority of people think 'hip-hop' or 'rap' causes younger people to do bad ****, but its not all hiphop, just the no talent garbage you mentioned, that gives people this leary(sp?) view of hiphop/rap...

Theres good underground hip-hop everywhere, its just the mainstream thats different. People who try to rap a certain way based on location are sell-outs. Btw the rappers HtownTx211 listed arent particularly talented, just cause someone isnt well-known doesnt make them underground. UGK in particular simply tries to emulate too-short.

i agree with mystikalMJ about the people he listed (tribe, the roots, talib, Mos, etc. are the greatest). and in doing so he brought up the "hip-hop" v. "rap" arguement which is a good one. Hip-hop is definitely more political, more intellectual, more "voice-of-the-people". it is generally more MUSIC

i disagree about juvenile but only about his first album, which was great.

and, i can't BELIEVE no one has mentioned OUTKAST. they are on the same level as ANY hip hop or rap artist out there. listen to ATLiens !!!!!!!

Really though, and i speak with no bias being from the midwest, atlanta is one of the locations with the most talent. i would say that most of the rap/hip-hop talent comes from NYC, LA, Atlanta in that order. just look at the smokin' grooves tour (i went--incredible): the roots (east cost), J5 (west coast), outkast (atlanta).

MUSIC oriented. the roots and mos def and others are musicians, not just rappers. i've seen the roots in a nightclub in new york and you could have only guessed you were at a "rap"-type concert like one or two times. on that note, hip-hop live is generally much better than a live rap show.

(okee, that's it. sorry for the post daily-double)

Default RE:

to the open minded one say homie all you gotta do is go to www.southparkcoalition.com and click on spc radio and it will take you right to the spc internet radio stations its for KiLLa KLan and
South Park Coalition affiliated rappers they gots alot of them but most of them is real lyrical with they sh-t.
Z-Ro,K-Rino,Street Military,Point Blank are a few of their names but man they got alot of members tho and most of them is dope and some is on another level in my openion.
I listed the artist I did cuz its the only ones that are even know with some talent I understand if your all of into that east coast stuff you can't listen to nothin else. I aint gonna argue what sounds better but I would listen to some west coast or down south if it was raw before I listened to east coast but thats cuz I don't know any rappers I like from east coast besides the Outlawz. Im from the South so thats why I know bout the southern rappers then east coast not saying they aint got talent its just some of the stuff people from over there say sound tight sound weak to me and don't get agg enuff in they rymes.
