Default The Decadence of Mainstream Rock 'n Roll

Is it me or has mainstream rock been going downhill since shortly after its beginning (like the 60s or something). I think now it's at an all time low. Seriously, I cannot even stand listening to my local modern rock station anymore. I used to like it, but these new bands really suck. I don't know what's going on. What kind of d-bag record companies sign these people?

Maybe I'm just ripped....anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, I see more and more bands solely getting by on their looks. It's ridiculous. People don't get signed for musical talent anymore.

But I am listening to Simon and Garfunkle right now.

It feels groovy...

I don't listen to new music. Not that I have much against it; it just doesn't work for me.

Always Groovy!!

Default clearchannel

i could be wrong on this, but i remember reading and/or hearing something about why there is such bad music on the radio now.

supposedly, clearchannel has taken over thousands of radiostations and basically puts regulations, to a certain degree, on what kind of music to play to. so basically i guess we're listening to what they want us to hear.

again, don't quote me on anything. i don't remember where i heard this. sorry if i'm repeating someone else's post.

The reason such crap gets played on the radio is called PAYOLA
which is when record execs either pay or give free merchandice,
services, or givaway items ie; cds shirts and the like. They give
"x" amount for so many spins per hour. The legality of this is
in the "gray area". It is patently illegal to directly accept funds
outright however it was and in some cases still is not unheard of.
It all depends on how much confidence your label has in whatever
they find appealing about you, sound, looks, whatever. How do you think that crap hansen wouuln't go away. The DEAD KENNEDYS were somewhere on tv a long time ago "i want to say it was some old Mtv show" where they were wearing shirts with
"S" on the front like superman they flipped out ties which cut
the S into a dollar sign and started singing to the beat of My Sharona, m,m,m,my payola. I wish i could remember where i saw that but i think you get the drift YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY!

I listen to out local alt-rock station during work hours, so that would be approximatly 40hrs a week. Granted, about 1/3 of the heavy-rotation playlist just makes my skin crawl, I hate it so much; but the rest is fine to me.
You'd think I'd be agreeing that it sux, coz they don't play any of my personal favorites...(way too far out there for radio), but I quite enjoy my worktime radio. I hear a lot of new bands that I would normally never know about, & it seems to me that a few of them are damn good.
For me, it breaks down into thirds right now.
1/3 makes me think...What the hell's wrong with these damn people??
1/3 is just OK...I don't really mind hearing it.
1/3 leaves me thinking.... those kids are damn good, I don't neccesarily want to go out & buy it, but I enjoy hearing it a couple-a times a day.

Just so long as I don't have to listen to our "geezer-rock" station that concentrates on ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Stones, Floyd, Rush, Bob Seager. God I hate that ****ing station. I'd rather go home & miss a days pay than have to listen to that crap all day.

Says the geezer!

I like geezer rock, it was made when people knew what the hell rock was and what it was supposed to sound like. Most of this new stuff that gets played on modern "rock" stations eats my ass. The best new bands are the ones you haven't heard of. Listen to the Blasters lately? How bout the Lost Trailers? There's tons of good modern rock music that never makes it into the mainstream. Ever wonder why it's referred to as the main stream? It's because it's so shallow.
