Default List of bands...any good ones in here?

A friend of mine who smokes more than me wrote down all the bands/groups/artists he likes when he's high. I have neither the time nor the money to invest in all of these CD's so I wanted to get a wider consensus on which are the best of the bunch. Ok, now on to the list...

-Phish
-Widespread Panic
-String Cheese Incident
-Big Wu
-Michael Franti / Spearhead
-Swollen Members
-The Pharcyde
-Heiroglyphics
-Yonder Mtn. String Band
-"Blow" Sdtk.
-Howie Day
-Steve Kimock Band (sp?)
-A Tribe Called Quest
-Beastie Boys (Ill Communication)
-Blackalicious
-Freddy Jones Band
-Allman Bros. Band
-311 (Unity)
-The Samples
-Ben Harper (Welcome to the Cruel World)
-Soullive
-Galactic
-Medeski, Martin and Wood (Combustion)
-Latyrx
-Digable Planets **

I've heard of phish, cheese, widespread, ben harper, 311 and beastie boys...but the others...no clue.

Any good ones on this list of music?

I just bought ben harper's newest CD...It's alright, I really liked "Burn One Down" and none of the new songs really have that feel. It's a solid CD though.

Also, I have the newest Widespread and Cheese CD's, both of which are really good. I'd have to say Cheese is better.

I also picked up the slightly stoopid CD "Everything You Need" which has become my favorite CD now.

Indeed it was. soybomb, you might want to check out some of the 2003 summer tour if you get a chance. Lots of old school songs played, at least at the concert I was at.

And I'd like to add a few to my recommended list.
- Supergrass
- Incubus
- Steve Miller Band

Yeah, I went to 4 shows this summer. Had a good time, but Phish just doesn't play like I want them to play anymore. I prefer machine gun Trey. You guys need to listen to some shows from 94. Best year by far IMO.

My picks from the original list are: Phish, String Cheese Incident, Allman Brothers, and Ben Harper.
Also if you havn't learned of the magic of Led Zeppelin yet you should check out their music.
