| gene hoglan (death, strapping young lad, dark angel) dave lombardo (slayer, fantomas) vinnie paul (pantera, damageplan) neil peart (rush) mike portnoy (dream theater, LTE) tim alexander (primus) those are my personal faves. it should be added that pete sandoval from morbid angel is unhumanly fast and well deserving of a listen. listen to "drum check" for a taste of awesomeness. and lars is good, but he's nowhere near the top tier of drummers out there. this is coming from a HUGE metallica fan as well (as in i don't think st anger is half bad) |

| Slayer has gotten every band beat as far as best drummer goes. Dave Lombardo has the quickest drum rolls and best cymbal usage, but Paul Bostaph has Lombardo beat in terms of double-bass. That guy's a maniac! And, Dave Grohl? C'mon. Nirvana was an awesome, majorly influencial band, but the drumming was little more than beginner's beats! I used their songs to teach myself how to play.

| Moon the loon. Why am I the only one who voted for him? John Bonham is damn good too. Tough question. |

| dave grohl is actually a pretty good drummer, his stuff on queens of the stone age is pretty good, but its nothing that most can't do. he's average i'd say now for the best; bonham without a DOUBT, if you've ever seen moby dick live you'll agree with me. also keith moon for sure RIP , and finally, lars ulrich: there is a lot of awesome drum beats in all of metallica's songs, and live he's really good. he doesn't compare to bonham though

| Ditto what whiplash said about Bonham and Moby Dick. Amazing stuff. Dave Grohl actually shows up on the very first page of the Inside the Ultimate Rock'n'Roll Band - LED ZEPPELIN special edition Q Magazine and states, "No one has come close to Bonham in 25 years. Absolutely no one..." You can guess who got my vote... ![]()

| Mike Portnoy is my favorite but Id have to say that Neil Peart, Virgil Donati, and Terry Bozzio are among the best. |

| There is just no way to say who is the best: Jazz - Buddy Rich (definitely the fastest two hands) Max Roach (Smooth) Gene Krupa (almost as fast as Buddy but with better demeanor) Louis Belson Rock - Keith Moon (if you ever saw him play your ears were always 2 beats behind what his hands and feet were doing - plus he was keeping time while being so fcukked up he could hardly stand) Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzman - If it can be beat on these two guys will play it and make it sing. Mickey's not the head of percussion music for the Library of Congress because he doesn't know what he's doing back there. Some of the most innovated beats-(just listen to The Eleven and see if you can figure out where that song gets its name) Charlie Watts - Bass, Snare, floor tom, hi-hat, crash and ride for the first 4 Stones albums. On the fifth he added a tom. Keith may be able to wail like a drunk whore at a sailors convention on the guitar and Mick may hold all the charisma but it's Charlie back there holding everything together. John Densmore - If you have ever sat behind a drum set and listened to any Doors song and tried to play along you will know what I mean. John Bonham - for a guy to literally beat the living sh*t out of his kit he sure made it sound good. |
