holy **** this dvd kicks so much ass. its got the stones playing a short set at madison square garden, in the recording studio listening to their new produced songs, and headlining the altamont festival on their 1969 tour. it also has some commentary from mick and the drummer(name?). some other special features are radio discussions about what went wrong at the festival,hells angels personal experiences and a bunch of cool pictures of the tour. its a great dvd if your a fan of the stones and i suggest everyone watch it sometime.

oh yea, altamont was a huge festival, over 100,000 people attended because it was free, and acts like jefferson airplane, crosby stills,nash and young, and the stones were going to play. the stones hired the hells angels to be security. the angels constantly fought with the crowd. there was a total of i think 10 deaths and lot of injuries. people say it was the end of the hippie era.

There was only one death due to an angel it was one at first then two more joined in then the Stones stopped playing until some kind of order was restored then they played on the other people that died were from overdoses total dead at altmont was actually seven,The Airplane played White Rabbit and this set a few people off the deep end.I haven't seen the video your talking about I did see one a while back but the memories of the real thing cant be replaced thanks for the post.

The Hells Angels were also aggressive towards the performers as well as the audience.

Jefferson Airplane singer Marty Balin was knocked unconscious in a scuffle with an Angel member during the Airplane set and had to be flown to a hospital directly from the site.
The Grateful Dead were scheduled to come on after CSN&Y, and before the Stones, but after hearing about the Balin incident (from Santana drummer Michael Shrieve), the Dead refused to play and left the venue. Airplane drummer Spencer Dryden became disillusioned after the mayhem at Altamont, and ended up leaving the band two months later.
