Wow! This is the first time I've been back on these boards in two years! Time really DOES fly...or maybe it's just me. Hehehe...Okay, so I know most of you guys may never have heard the name Raymond Scott, but unless you've never seen a Warner Brothers cartoon in your LIFE, you have DEFINITELY heard the music that he wrote and recorded in the 1930's for his six-man Quintette (I'll let you guys figure that one out ;-) I only recently found out that this one musical genius was responsible for some of the trippiest, craziest, and most animated music ever featured in film or television. He never wrote for cartoons in his life, but cartoons constantly borrowed his works to underscore the hi-jinx of Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, and all the gang. Ren & Stimpy used a ton of his stuff too! Later in life, he abandoned instrumental jazz and was a VERY important pioneer in electronic music, inventing and perfecting his own synthesizer machines and digital mixing equipment when such mechanisms weren't even dreamt of in science fiction. His achievements in this field are just now gaining the recognition that they deserve.I recently bought a full CD of his wildest, jazziest tunes ("Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights"), and I must say, if you have any appreciation for ragtime/jazz or just plain oddball cartoon music, check out some samples at Amazon! If you don't instantly recognize the mechanical weirdness of "Powerhouse", you really need to watch more TV...
