Did anyone else go to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival down in Moscow, Idaho? I went there with my high school combo, and I tell you, that was the best music I have heard. Ever.

There was this one saxaphonist (he played the tenor), his name was Igor Butman - he was amazing! He would be blasting out a melody in the upper range, then out of nowhere, he would drop a perfectly shaped low note into the air, and continue playing high notes. Anybody who has any experience playing the saxaphone knows how hard this is. I play the baritone saxaphone, and I can't even jump up and down a single octave. I swear, this guy must've been doing three octave jumps - flawlessly.

And the Lionel Hampton big band - I can't describe just how powerful that music was. Five saxaphones, four trumpets, three trombones. They had the place swinging.

So yeah, did anybody else here go to the festival, or want to go to the festival? Or have anything to say related to jazz or festivals thereof?

Moscow, Idaho? Awesome.

I'm not really into jazz that much. I prefer things a little more upbeat. Sounds like a great time though.

if you think jazz is not "upbeat" then you obviously haven't listened to much jazz at all.
