Man, I'm all about The Who, but they are not the Stones. When it comes down to a band that I can sit down and listen to any of their albums all the way through, the stones are easy. But the Who has some songs that are classically amazing. "Love, Reign O'er Me" was in my head for like months after I first heard it. But the same goes for the Stone's masterpieces with a list that just goes on forever. My point is, when it comes to longevity and music that you can listen to without tiring of it, stuff that is truely classically appealing, the stones take the cake. The Who definitely put some context into thier music that may limit their appeal to younger generations. They fall short of the 3 Titans of Britian: Beatles, Stones, and Zeppelin.

I'm sure more than half the people who post here have heard stairway sometime when they were smoking up. Dazed and Confused is a much better song to listen to when I'm high, but stiarway is a classic.

I guess that doesn't quite work for those of us who've heard Stairway to Heaven 1000 times. Even so, I think Satisfaction is a better song. It's short, but sweet, and it's got just as much stickablity in my mind as Stairway.

The fact that Stairway to Heaven has been played on the radio millions of times does not take away from the brilliance of the song. If it was Dazed and Confused that you heard every day on the radio and then one day you listened to Stairway for the first time your jaw would hit the floor. It's all a matter of opinion, but please don't dis Stairway just because it's been overplayed.

Even so, I think Satisfaction is a better song
Wow. Again, of course it is all opinion, but in my opinion comparing a song such as Satisfaction to Stairway is just ignorant. First of all, comparing the lyrics of the two songs is just laughable. And musically Stairway is so much more involved; it puts me in a trance from the first note to the last, and has a solo in it that blows away anything the Stones ever did. Sure, Satisfaction is 'catchier,' but so is any song that has a 3 note guitar riff. Even if you like Satisfaction better, I'd like to think you were able to admit that Stairway shows incredible musical talent that the Stones just never had.

I know I'm horribly biased, but I almost cried when I read that. You must like your music plain and simple, Rusty.

I think it defnitely has to do with the fact I listened to Zeppelin almost exclusively for a while. Satisfaction just has more lasting appeal for me. I can recite all the words to both songs, but Satisfaction is more fun. The Stones know how to a lot of energy into their music. Now that I think about it, maybe I like "Sympathy for the Devil" more than satisfaction. That song really makes me move. I mean, sure if you want that cool mellow feeling, but I'm not talking about music to listen to when you're stoned. If that was the case, it's be a tie between Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but that isn't the case here. Yeah, actually, I'm seriously going to say that I prefer "Sympathy for the Devil" to "Stairway to Heaven." The stones were so risky for their day, they are great, and I wouldn't say they lack lyrical talent. "Sympathy for the Devil" has a great guitar solo, and don't even tell me the Stones didn't have magnifiscent talent. Listening to Led Zeppelin is more like an experience, while listening to the Stones just makes me say, "Damn, I'd like to hear that one again." Sure, Zeppelin put a lot more into their music song-for-song, but I think the stones come out on top with overall likeability and repeatability.

They are both great bands, I think the Stones just appeal to me more. Wild Horses is my Stairway to Heavan, Mick jagger is a better songwriter than Robet Plant in my opinion. But damn, Going To California almost makes me want to change my vote.
