| I saw several songs from the new CD at the Wakarusa shows. I enjoyed them live, but I don't really dig much studio music at all. Definatley check the live versions out though, they are good ![]() |

| I just today bought tix for a two shows this summer. One outside, one inside (seated). I've never been to a jam concert... I have ALL SCI's studio CDs, and many live concerts on CD. My favorite CD is "Round The Wheel" followed by "Carnivall 99" and then "Untying the Knot". It's even hard for me to pin down a "favorite" because I love the vibe I get off all their stuff. One Step seemed...I don't know, to "diffrent". I bought it the day it came out, and listened to it twice and never really gave it much more of a chance. Maybe since I'm going to see them this summer and this is their current CD I oughtta give it a go...? Keller Williams w/SCI is the shiznit FYI...

| Ive been to the Vans Warped Tour...that was fun, but not the same vibe I have these days.. I'm so stoked to be able to see TWO String Cheese shows back to back 2 nights in a row!! If ANYONE READING THIS DOES BOOTLEGS pls msg me. I want to record or take some kind of documentation of this event. 2 years ago whille experiencing a very confusing mental state due to off-topics I *heard* SCI inside my head. On another adventure the "otherness" really found SCI to be "in tune" with the oneness of reality and the universe. This band has somthing special about them... I'm so stoked...anyone who does jam shows please give me some advice...if anything i'd just like to hear YOUR string cheese stories. Seriously! I want to know what the vibes are like live vs. CD/DVD...? Like, what are some "words of wisdom" and "tips/advice" to help me maximize my experience? Two shows in 48 hrs...how the hell did I luck out for this? |

| which shows are you going to back to back? if they are the radio city music hall shows you you are in for a huge treat, especially because of rat dog. either way any 2 sci shows in a row are incredible. edit: re reading your post the 2 shows are at different venues but if rat dog is there you should def see them. (lead singer is Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead, they play dead songs very jazzy like and are wonderful) and the show will defeinetely be released by tapers right after it, learn how to use bittorrent and check out bt.etree.org the days after the shows and this will be nothing at all like the warped tour you will understand when you get thereand yes they are very in tune with the oneness of reality and existence. this transcendental enlightenment aspect is defientely a major part of/goal of the "jam" scene. and i don't have much advice besides bring some good pot, be careful about security, and listen to the music play and lose yourself in it. lets see, i have seen string cheese 5 times i think. first, was at bonnaroo 2004. if you know anything about bonnaroo (or jam festivals in general) you will know what a huge party/show/experience this was. i had some off topic magical chocolates during this and it was a great time then i saw them 3 nights in a row (well 2 nights then a break then 1). this was the 2004 new years run, and i went to all 3 shows. they played Dec. 28 and 29 at the theatre at madison square garden and then new years eve at radio city music hall. they were al incredible but OMG new years was incredible. they had so many visual things and the music was just beautiful. my only new years show yet and it was incredible. then i saw them last summer at a stop of the Big Summer Classic tour (them and other bands such as kellar williams, Younder Mountain String Band, and Umphreys Mcgee to name a few) at the same venue in MA that i am seing them this year. that was wonderful of course too. they also played at the All Good festival i went to last summer, but it was raining really hard when they played so i didn't go see it. but ya, good luck man, i can help answer any other questions you have, and it wil be a very differnt vibe than a cd or dvd could ever show. and a last recommendation, if you like SCI you should listen to the Grateful Dead. they are my favorite band ever and created the idea of what you will experience at that show. |

| Jack...man I'm scared to listen to Phish and the Dead. I know what happends to their fans (they follow them around from show to show as vagabonds..)...I know that this would happen to me! I'ts like in my head i say,"oh man im not ready for that plunge...!" Yes, I will be going to the 2 shows in Anchorage, AK. The first one is the outside show, 1200 people. The second is inside an old movie theatre with a balcony, 900 people. It's a "dinner theatre" so there are tables on the backs of the seats for food/drink. This second show is also a 21-and-over show. ![]() That "oneness" is exactly what I was refering too...interesting that you and everyone else also instantly recognized it! I have to ask, is a Dave Mathews show even close to an SCI/Jam experience? My friends that I will be attending this show with have seen DMB live at least 5 times, but never SCI. They claim to "know what it's all about" ... I question this because I don't like DMB. It's to produced feeling or somthing. *shrug* Thanks for the reply man! |

i have seen only a handful of phish shows but there isn't really any traveling scene to speak of mowadays, besides things like SCI which you are going to see. but dont worry- listen to them!!! if you like sci they are where it is at got to nugs.net (link to their free section - http://stash.nugs.net/stash.asp )and listen up, you will def appreciate itthat is sick you are going to the alaska shows! there is alot of hype about them. it will prob be less like a regular shows because it is very far for the traveling minions to get up there, but itll still be really fun. but it was rediscovered in the modern context by the Dead. Listen to them!! they are the foundation to this that you are starting to delve into.Quote:
and i saw it a little bit). i have never been to a dmb show but i dont think they have much of an actual traveling following, or any type of working (selling what you will- clothes, food, drinks, drugs, pipes, jewelry etc..) in the lot. NOTHING like SCI. enjoy the shows... and listen to the dead it can't do any harmto try to force you into it, hit up this link. http://stash.nugs.net/attics/77may_m...=214&cmd=shows some of my favorite songs on this page include the music never stopped bertha cassidy eyes of the world terrapin station st. stephen scarlet begoinas listen to it all but these are a good start | |||
