| Some of you like myself may have encountered a few songs that are powerful enough and hit you hard enough that they actually change things about your life. Now, I know its not entirely legal to post all the lyrics of a song up (or is it common domain once its been broadcast?). However, Posting song titles, and links to lyrics- or excerpts of lyrics (properly credited of course) is perfectly legal as far as i know. So here goes: What songs have shaped your life? What about the song, and how has it changed you. Positive Vibes by the Kottonmouth Kings lyrics verse 1: "Let the vibes blow like the ocean breeze Mamma always told me there’d be days like these Keep your head right, just do as you please No never interfere with an evil man’s schemes Keep your heart pure, conceive your own dreams Respect your fellow man, the earth and the trees The air that we breathe to the highest mountain peak Bring truth from your soul to your mouth when you speak" This song is what caused me to start appreciating life in its simplicity. For entirely too long I spent life worrying about everything- small and large. I never saw the real beauty of nature, or could appreciate something like a gentle breeze. I heard this song and thought about it for awhile and found that I could appreciate the world far more- as a result I am a far happier person. I also have found that im not nearly as prone to being deceptive or false. Dragonfly by Ziggy Marley Lyrics I can't even begin to pull an excerpt from this song. Its all so good- and its all there. Were killing the earth we live on, and were the only species that does it. Oh to live like the natives instead of civilization. You guys definately need to check this song out- especially if your one who feels anything for the planet. Shalom Salaam by Ziggy Marley Lyrics "who will take the blame for the blood of my children to who does vengeance belong to no one no one we're dying from tanks and suicide bombs the only answer is to live as one and justice will come for my sons and just will come for my sons shalom salaam shalom salaam" I had to do a little research on this today to figure out exactly what Shalom Salaam meant. If you happen to be a hebrew scholar and can further aid me understand the words in their entirity please do. Here goes though: What I gathered, Shalom (jewish) means multiple things- "Peace, unity, and equality" were some of the general connotations from the Old Testament. Salaam (islamic) is used as a general greeting for muslims, but it has a very deep meaning. Salaam is to say "Peace be to you, I have no anger towards you, and you none towards I. I pray for your blessings while we are apart until we meet again." Wow- I was REALLY impressed with how well Ziggy can capture a political history and put it so eloquently into song. Careful not to attribute the violence to either Israel or Palestine he calls for it to be the cry of the nations- "Shalom Salaam" a mixture of the two factions' languages to cry for peace and unity. I found this song while exploring alot of my prejudices and lingering dis-satisfaction with certain nations. This song has been playing quite alot for me the past couple days. |
