| Have any of you heard of the Flaming Lips' experimental album Zaireeka? It's four CDs, and ideally you need to listen to all four CDs at once on four separate players. You can listen to them in different combinations, of course, but all at once is how it was meant to be played. Each time you listen to it it's a different experience, supposedly, because CD players never play exactly in sync with each other. I got stoned for the first time in a while last night with a few people, and we all got together to listen to this thing. I've never heard anything like it. I felt myself profoundly emotionally affected by it - there were times when it was indescribably beautiful and I was surrounded by walls of sound, just all humming and harmonizing together and I was just sitting there stupidly grinning cause it was all I could do, just smiling at the wall and feeling the people around me and their joy also. There were certain points where nothing in the world could go wrong ever again, or so it seemed. There were also parts where the music descended really quickly into chaos and suddenly all around us would be the sound of a hundred dogs fighting, or a barely audible (and yet all too audible) high-frequency shrieking. But at the same time it was part of the same beautiful design and I wasn't bothered at all by it. What's the best time you've had simply sitting and enjoying something? Music, movies, nature, anything. Where all you could do was just sit and experience? Talking becomes impossible, you don't realize that you're smiling, you don't need to move and everything is right with the world and as far as you're concerned the moment you're in will last forever and be always warm? | I've heard about it before, after your description though I think I'm going to have to get it. Now I have to find four CD players though. Do you think It would work the same if I synced them up using audio editing software? |
