Default My Didgeridoo and me!

Does anyone else play this very, very cool instrument? I bought an el cheapo bambo-ish one at an import store for rather cheap. I've heard PVC ones that don't even sound bad! I had a breakthrough today messing around. I had this urge to play it, sat down and said in my head, "Im going to get this damned circular breathing down..its almost like a french inhale".

SO I took a straw, some water and practiced keeping the bubbles going by pushing the air out with my cheeks whille sucking up air with my nose and then switching back to my lungs.

And all be damned if i didn't get it on the didge! FINALLY! After fiddling around for a bit I settled into a nice 5 min session non-stop! It was awesome! The breathing almost got rythmic and very trance-inducing. Afterwards my body was still vibrating and felt very, very energetic. My head was also very buzzed as well!

Here's some info I found today about the didgeridoo:

"The page on Didgeridoo Sound Healing on this web site shows that the distribution of frequencies also contains not only harmonics going up to 1000 Hz but also extremely low frequencies way below the Alpha brainwaves, in the same area as the rhythms of drumming commonly used in shamanistic rituals of Aborigines and peoples all over the world, time-tested to help in inducing altered states of consciousness. This may help to explain why the didgeridoo many thousands of years ago found its way into Aboriginal shamanistic and healing practices."

I've had this thing for about a year now and it's finally starting to really be fun. I can do all the "wa-wa's" and "owie-owie" sounds and then throw a hum undertone to really make it sound cool.

My dog really hates it though, he gets all concerned looking.

It's funny...In my car I always have my didge and a set of bongo drums. I'm ready at any-time for a drum circle or jam sesh...

Anyway, anyone else have any experiences, stories, or further info on the didge? I think it really could be used powerfully as a meditative tool now...

FYI: This was posted originally by me over at www.shroomery.org (so im not rippin some dude off...Im just to lazy to re-type my post over here)

Anyway..Since I bought my didge, I made a friend that works at a diffrent import store. They sell all the tapestries and insencse and shit...She told me she could give me 20% off the didges (which are already on sale)...I think I'm going to go get a more expensive one thats not bamboo! (the one I have was $20 made of bamboo in indonesia)...I love weed-network-friends!!!!!

I used to have a homemade one from a section of PVC pipe. Never got my cirucular breathing down though. Awesome sounding instrument though.

Oh and at music festivals, it's a TOTAL chick magnet. If you can somehow hold the didge with your feet to your mouth or somthing, AND play bongos or some other hand drum at the same time...you'll get laid over and over and over.

Clap-sticks are a traditional aborigoniee paring with the didge...

I'm actually going to keep practicing diffrent yells, calls, whoots, and noises whathave you untill I get good enough to go join in with some local drum circles in my town. . . . Maybe I'll meet some other dudes with cool instruments and we can all just get high and jam...?

Could you imagine having a session in the australian bush around a campfire with an Aborigoniee playing the didgeridoo across from you? I think that be the best high ever.

Talking Pics of my NEW didjeridoo!!!!

Here's some pics of my new didge that I got for less than 60$ (it was a sweet deal)....

Main shot...it's about 4' tall

Closeup of the hand-painted artwork...Someone did this by hand, and wait for the stuff to dry!

Shot of the bottom and the grains of the hardwood. I think it's euclyptus (sp?) because I swear I saw dead termites up inside it when I looked! *gross*

Th-tha-thats alll folks! Hope you like these pics! I'm hella happy with my new didge!

I got one for my birthday around three years ago. I was happy as could be when Tyson showed up on my doorstep with it in his hand. Surprising, as he isnt tha type of guy that would even know what one is...nevertheless, he ended up being tha one that used it tha most when we were living together shortly afterwards. None of us ever got down tha circular breathing, but your tale of success has inspired me to give it another shot.

Mine looks ALOT like yours too...except tha design on it is KoKoPelli, which he got to match my tatoo and showercurtain (long story)
