Well, I'm not going to argue about the whole lyrical vs. fun rap anymore. People have different opinions on what's good music, I just find most of those lyrical rappers are lame and boring as fuck, and their beats are shitty too. Seriously, does anyone listen to that shit besides nerdy black people from NY, and white boy's from the burbs ?

My whole point about you hating on shit was, well I don't like the type of shit that y'all listen to, but rather than making post after post about me hating it (or not liking, or can't stand it, or however you want to word it) I'd rather just make posts about things that I do like and leave the rest alone. Make sense ?

Oh yeah - I'm also going to have to try and find a disc golf place to play around my area

yes, white boys from seattle, smart people, people who are fed up with top 40 bs. white boys from the burbs tend to stick to mainstream shit. they make up 90% of the sales on top 40 rap.

Hmm, I like some rap, but more of the rap thats mixed with a more.. tune/ singing. Not just raw rap, where they rap about bitches and drugs, thats just dumb. In general I dislike how there are sooo many different rappers, they are almost becoming generic. There are so many different rappers who ive seen once, been like "who the hell is that" and so many sound the same to me.

haha, a little bit off topic, I hear a funny joke about little wayne. if your mind is twisted it should come kind of easy "little wang"

It sucks.
I cant stand it when people just bash another genre of music, based on a few artists within the genre. Music is about freedom of expression. Yes i dislike commercial rap to, but there are alot of skilled rapers and hip hop artists out there.

When I was around 14 all i listened to was classic rock, folk and such and used to hate rap to. But now, ive searched more into the genre of hip hop and rap, thanks to friends and there is alot of music i really enjoy from it. Yes you're allowed to have an opinion, im not saying you shouldnt, im just saying "dont judge a book by its cover."

Edit: Just noticed how old this thread was, haha sorry.

Its all good. Rather you find a thread with a topic you want to discuss than rather starting a double thread.

I hear ya, Im not really into Rap music, But I can appreciate some of it. I do like some Rapists. lol. Ludacris, Xzibit, etc. There are some pretty slick verses out there. Definetly worth the Merit.

On the other hand, and im pretty sure everyone in this thread is griping about this, is the fact that a lot of the rap songs out there pretty much talk about sex, money, guns, corruptness, or just general hate.
How does this help anything? Seriously. other than putting more money in the rapists pocket.

I like conscious rap better than dat cLub $hit cause the beats and lyrics are generally more unique and talented. Its a lot easier to produce a beat using only synths than pulling samples off of vinyl and trying to make it fit into the mix. Also the rhyming tends to be more complex, good conscious rappers don't only have flow like a lot of the top 40 rappers, they are also intelligent people with a wide vocabulary at their disposal, they don't need to repeat "Yea" or "What" over and over to fill up the chorus.

I think part of the reason the less talented artists are making big bucks is that they concentrate solely on making catchy songs rather than good art. A song with a simple beat is easy to dance to and simple lyrics are easy to sing to. If every verse is unique and the rhythm is complex it will take more listening time to get it. With a lot of top 40 rap songs you can memorize it after a few listens, maybe even after hearing it just one time. Also words like money, paid, sex, fuck, and shit stick in your mind more.

The best of the best are the ones who can make complex songs that are catchy at the same time, like ATCQ or Notorious BIG, these are the artists who deserve their recognition.

I'll stop my hip-hop rant there, feel like i could write a 10-page paper on hip-hop.

Compare these

Catchy non-conscious rap-

Conscious non-catchy rap-

Perfect Hip-Hop-

I played disc golf in middle school, don't remember it being too fun, would prbly be a lot better when you're blazed though

As with any music there is bound to be crap and there is bound to be good stuff too. Don't any of you tell me that there isn't shitty rock, because there is, its a fact. Rap is just one of those genres where the crap seems to rise to the top.don't ask me why people listen to 50 cent and g-unit, but they do, I think the top rappers out there are a pathetic excuse, and what theyve done to the image of hip-hop can't be undone.

people that don't listen to hip-hop only see gangstas, violence, pussy, and money represented as what rap is all about, this is unfortunate because it is only one small side, True hip-hop varies so wildly, its a shame that this side is what is presented to the public.its a crying shame.

I don't particularly like country or techno music, but i don't go around telling people how much i hate it like a sandy vagina. I'm sure there is some good fucking techno, but unfortuatly for me i just haven't heard any that has appealed to me YET.i wish people wern't so fucking closed minded, its like some of you think that music can only be listened to and enjoyed by certin types of people. i'm a white stoner teenager what should i listen to? pink floyd and led zep?

just for the record i agree with the OG post,i also hate rappers with lil in thier name,i mean cmmon lil wang?cmmon, be a real man
