I never watch the show or anything but hear about it in the news all the time...



How can the American Idol have gray hair? Not to diss older people or anything. But shouldn't the American Idol be a little younger?

the whole concept of american idol is a little skewed. the fact that a singer of a genre of music that i and many people i know find to be grating and hard to listen to should be the "idol" is just a kind of assumptious. r & b much like rap, and much like rock, has wandered very far from its roots. that being said, and assuming that a really good singer becomes the idol of america, i think that the appearance of the person matters not. that huge black man won, and i bet some people were up in arms about that, but he was a good singer, whether or not i like his stuff.

Mass, appearance definately plays a huge part in a business perpective. There arent too many ugly singers out there in the mainstream pop world, because kids dont want to be looking up to someone that doesnt aestetically appeal to them. These days you have to be a quadruple threat with chicks like Jessica Simpson to compete with.

Which is why it's good to see someone win this based on their actual singing talent. If you want to look at half naked women, go buy yourself a maxim already. You don't listen to music with your eyes, and the fact that people don't realize this is exactly what is wrong with modern music.
Edit: I still hate this show; pop music really grates on my ears.

i agree completely about how appearance dictates some extent of commercial success, even though thats not how it should be.

I heard on the news the other day that this show gets some of the highest ratings of all the shows today. Then some dumb ass got on there and started saying it was because American Idol doesn't have the flaws of other reality shows and that was the reason they had the highest ratings. He said that the other reality shows like Survivor had behind the scenes sort of stuff where people would be hooking up in hot tubs, etc., etc. WTF? That's WHY their ratings are so high. People find it entertaining to see "real" drama on TV.
