i love indie rock. it is so relaxed. I wrote a paper about my favorite indie artists and my english teacher started listening to indie and loves it. my favorite indie artists are Iron & Wine, Mates of State, Bright Eyes (most people find him increddibly irritating, but i like him), The Shins, Rilo Kiley, and most of all, Death Cab for Cutie. I saw Iron and Wine in concert this summer and it was so good. Im also seeing Death Cab in november.

'Indie' means that they're on an independent label. It's not a genre.

BUT I agree with what you said. Death Cab and the Shins are amazing. I saw Death Cab this summer, and it was the best thing I ever saw/heard... especially when they did "We Looked Like Giants"

i know indie isn't really a genre, but generally indie artists tend to play music thats a lot more chill and very talented. oh, and just to clarify, indie is NOT the same thing as emo- they're not even close. we looked like giants is such a great song. i'm really excited to here them play it. the song i am most excited to hear them play is What Sarah Said. I think that that is the greatest song ever written (well, maybe thats a little presumptuous). It is so amazing. I wish they would come out with a book of sheet music for Plans.

Oh don't get me started on emo. Most people don't have a CLUE what emo music actually IS, so they assume that it's music like Death Cab and The Shins and Brighteyes... and they couldn't be more wrong.

I wanted to see Death Cab when they come to Toronto, but it's on Halloween night and I have a midterm that night

Indie simply means signed to an independent label. Typically the music of indie artists is very different from anything you hear on the radio which makes indie the antithesis of emo. Emo is corporate to the extreme. Emo puts all talent and poetry aside in order to appeal to a mass audience to make money.

I saw Death Cab on monday, they were sweeeeeet. Probably one of the best concerts I've seen so far. I also have the new leaked CD from The Shins called Wincing The Night Away, it's pretty good.

Indie music is more of a genre of alternative rock, but i don't see indie artists as bein toward emo.
