I just saw the Mars Volta open for the Chili Peppers last night... and the Mars Volta played without Cedric! AHHH! What's the Mars Volta without the lead singer? Not that interesting to tell you the truth. The band came out less one member, and started to jam... and continued to jam for 50 minutes. That was their opener - 50 minutes of improvised riffs and drumbeats with crazy face-melting solos here and there.

It was great at the beginning, but it got old after 20 minutes or so. One's face can only melt so much. I was SO pissed that I didn't get to see them play any of their songs that I could NOT enjoy the Chili Peppers. I went to see TMV, not the Chilis. I didn't stand up once and I didn't clap once during the Chilis I was so disappointed. They were pretty great, but I don't like them nearly as much as TMV.

When I got home I checked online and it turns out that Cedric was so ill he couldn't get out of bed... so I can't really be mad at him. Plus I realized that what I saw was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. TMV have never done something like that at ANY of their shows, and probably won't again. They play the same songs at every concert, and I got to see them do something really special... As disappointed as I am, I consider myself to be very lucky They DID have mad skills on stage... plus I think the guitarist from the Chili Peppers joined them on stage and there were some SICK guitar duels.

sighhhhhhhhh, I guess I'll have to wait until TMV tours again.

Usually I couldn't fathom "The Mars Volta" and "Dissapointing" in the same sentence, but no Cedric? WTF?
