Default Electronica suggestions....

Hey,

I have always had a fascination with electronic music (mostly ambience, and trance, although I really like anything), and it has grown over the years significantly.

I'm have really only gotten into some of the 'bigger name stuff'. I'm wondering if there are any members here who share the same love for electronic music as I do and might be able to give me some suggestions for stuff to pick up?

Right now my 'collection' consists of Paul Oakenfold ('A Voyage Into Trance' was my first, and favorite album ever), a few Shpongle albums (which I like very much), a few Infected Mushroom albums, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Massive Attack, Zombie Nation...

Suggestions please?

Thank you

Default Here are some of my favorites...

These are all good ambient groups/artists:
Thievery Corporation
Sia
Lovage (...this is love-making music, very chill)
Banco de Gaia
Groove Armada
Ministry of Sound
Portishead
Telepopmusic
Way Out West
Midival Punditz
Liquid Acid
Herbalizer (good acid-jazz, kinda "trippy" and ambient)

I don't listen to much trance anymore, but ATB and Faithless are good.

Also Adam Freeland is an amazing breakbeat producer/DJ, you should definately check out some of his stuff. Also Leftfield is a good group, they're a mix of dub/house/breakbeats.

Hope you enjoy!

I LOVE electronica! Mostly drum & bass but I have a well-rounded collection, ranging from techno to experimental. I'm not too big on trance though, and I only like certain types of house when I'm in the right mood. Regardless, here's a bit of what I have in my collection...

Massive Attack
Aphex Twin
Sasha (trance/tech house/breaks)
Selway (techno)
Plastikman a.k.a. Richie Hawtin (minimal techno/ambient/experimental)
Carl Craig (Detroit techno)
Ming & FS (hip hop/drum & bass fusion)
UNKLE (hip hop/breaks/trance/pop)
Roni Size (drum & bass)
Krust (drum & bass)
SUV (drum & bass)
D Product (drum & bass)
Photek (drum & bass....at least his earlier/better work)
Spring Heel Jack (drum & bass turned experimental jazz)
Dieselboy (drum & bass)
AK1200 (drum & bass)
Pieter K (drum & bass)
Klute (drum & bass)
DJ Krush (hip hop/trip hop)
DJ Shadow (hip hop/trip hop)
James Hardway (jazzy drum & bass/lounge/house)
LTJ Bukem (mainly drum & bass)
Chemical Brothers (big beat/techno/acid house/pop/rock)
Crystal Method (techno/breaks)
Rhythm & Sound (experimental house/dub/reggae)
Leftfield (dub/reggae-influenced techno/breakbeats)
DJ Spooky (experimental drum & bass/illbient/trip hop)
Thievery Corporation (loungy dub/reggae/continental)
Underworld (dance/techno/house)
Junkie XL (rock-influenced techno/breaks turned trance)
Meat Beat Manifesto/Jack Dangers (industrial breaks/techno/trip hop/dub)
Pole (experimental)
Tadd Mullinix (experimental)
Monolake (minimal techno)
BT (trance/breaks/pop/rock...his latest album is ambient)
DJ Mark Farina (house/downtempo)
DJ Garth (house)
Daft Punk (quirky house/pop)
Deadbeat (dub-inspired house)
Fluke (techno/breaks)
Freaky Flow (drum & bass)
The Future Sound Of London (ambient/experimental....formerly techno)
Goldie (drum & bass)
Gus Gus (electronic pop/trip hop/ambient techno)
Orbital (techno)
Tosca (downtempo/house)
Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra (trip hop)
Moby (mostly pop/rock...formerly techno/ambient)
William Orbit (ambient)
Quantic (neo soul/broken beats/house/hip hop)
Portishead (gloomy downtempo)
Prodigy (punk rock-influenced techno/big beat)
Propellerheads (soulful breaks/hip hop/house)
Source Direct (drum & bass)
St. Germain (jazz/house fusion)
Zero 7 (folk/rock-influenced electronica)

I highly recommend those.
