Default Meshuggah and the likes

So I read alot about Rap, Hip-hop, Classic rock and really sh*tty new rock on these forums but never really hear anything about any of the bands that I consider quality metal. Recently I've been really into Meshuggah because of the groovieness of the odd time over 4/4 drum bass and guitar lines. Anybody else into this sort of technical metal/death metal?

Some of my other all time favorites are Tool, Opeth, Beneath the Massacre, Necrophagist, Psycroptic, A Perfect Circle, Gojira, Planet X along with countless jazz, rock, classical and some hip hop.

Fuck yeah. If you want some more death check out Behemoth, Morbid Angel, HYpocrisy and Decapitated.

I consider myself more of just a metal fan in general. I'm not really into death metal, black metal, etc. I just like any good metal. Metal bands I frequently listen to include 36 Crazyfists, In Flames, All That Remains (saw them live recently, fucking AMAZING), Trivium, Metallica, All Shall Perish, Pantera, It Dies Today, and Parkway Drive (Australian metalcore band, unbelievable). I love listening to my metal while blazing.

Hm, alot of the bands people listing here are absolutely nothing like Meshuggah (i.e. Opeth,. Tool, Pantera, Inflames, etc.)

ANyways, to stay on the main topic - Meshuggah f'n rules. They know how to make a fucking gnarly metal song.

Mathcore for life!

I very much like Dillinger. I really like the singers growl especially, he even has a good mellow tone.

I thought Miss Machine fucking ruled. My favorite song is Sunshine the Werewolf.

Have you heard of a band called Between the Buried and Me? Check them out, awesome shit.

Yeah my friends used to be obsessed with Between the Buried and Me. Some of their songs are definitely badass.

Oh hell yeah, I love the entire Alaska album. They made a cover CD of some really good stuff, I like all the cover songs they picked out, especially the Colorblind one and The soundgarden song, forgot its name.

You have any other good mathcore bands I should check out?

And please don't list anything obscure, if it isn't solid I'd just rather skip it.

Have you heard of Strapping Young Lad? More of Industrial Death metal, really awesome bad, they were just playing on my winamp, meh...

Meshuggah is a great band, but what would you expect? Coming from Sweden, it's no suprise. Bands like The Haunted, Soilwork, and Dark Tranquility are all great and they all are from Sweden. The best technical stuff comes from Sweden, I think.

Then there are bands like As Blood Runs Black, All Shall Perish, etc. Just as technical, if not more, and ten times more brutal. Still, Meshuggah is amazing mainly because of the offbeats and time signatures they play in.
