Anybody here into his solo work? I'm pre ordered a copy of ATAXIA - AUTOMATIC WRITING II which he is releasing on Tuesday. I just recently got into his work outside of RHCP. It is so haunting and a lot of trippy shit. Some of my new favorite tunes to listen to stoned. Anyway just curious if there were other fans....

Yeah, I've seen him a few times with the Chili Peppers, but had no idea he was putting out solo stuff. He put out a few things in the 90's, but released a bunch of music in 04-05. I've bought 4 of the full lengths from itunes so far and am digging all of them.

Frusciante has been putting out solo work for a while now. His first two albums were done during the time that RHCP put out One Hot Minute, when Dave Navarro was taking Frusciante's place (Frusciante was very heavy into heroin abuse and left the band for a while). He put out these two singles albums in order to try and get more money for drugs. He almost killed himself with drug abuse during this time, but managed to recover and get clean. He then went back to RHCP to make Blood Sugar Sex Magik and all the incredible music that was to follow

But he has recently started putting out some new solo stuff, and its quite different from his previous drug-induced attempt to get some cash. He really shows his deep, often haunted side in his solo work. That becomes pretty obvious in songs like Regret and Song to Sing When I'm Lonely. It's really clear hes had a really rough past, and is very regretful of that.

But he definitely has some good solo stuff, and it's all very introspective and melodic, as is his style. To Only Record Water For Ten Days is a very good album.
He's lived through some really crazy times and dealt with a lot of rough stuff, such as Anthony Kiedis' drug abuse, and his own. Supposedly he has track marks that will never fully heal on his arms or legs.

I'm somewhat of a Red Hot Chili Peppers aficionado haha

Wow, thanks for that info. I have always been into the chili peppers music, but never really followed what frusciante was doing after he left the band or what he was doing in the last few years. I've bought 5 of his 2004 releases so far and am really digging them. I love finding new music and especially an artist with such a large number of releases.

actually, john quit the band after bloosugarsexmagik during the tou for that album and thats when dave took his place - john returned to the band for 1999's californication
