They are, and its all singing.

hmm, metal isn't really my thing. Used to listen to System of a Down (hell are they even considered metal?)...

But i know Led Zeppelin were a big influence on metal to follow, and I do love me some Zeppelin

Those are some good fuckin' bands man. I'm going to that show too. In two days, actually. Also, August Burns Red is badass, too.

Check out Knights of the Abyss, At the Throne of Judgement, A Black Rose Burial, The Faceless.

Those bands are capable of tearing new assholes.

Although I enjoy listening to metal occasionally, the fact that it is hard to play, and the musicians are very skilled has nothing to do with whether the genre is good or not. You could make the argument that classical music and orchestral music takes much more skill than any other kind of music, but that does not mean that people will actually listen to it/enjoy it. I'm not disagreeing with you that metal can be great, but telling people that it takes a lot of skill to play metal doesn't really mean anything.

You are completely right. I would much rather listen to some dude pluck a few notes here and there and hum. That would sound so much better than a guitar solo, or maybe a sweep, or a kickass drum fill, or even a really badass bass line.

Don't get me wrong - I love listening to chill music, it's great. But, if you listen to music mainly for the quality and musicianship, metal is the best way to go.

Also, when I say the word 'musicianship' I don't just mean how well they play. Playing the instrument is only half of the show these days. The energy that comes from metal is by far greater than 99% of all other music.

Music is about opinion. You can't say whether a genre is good or not. It's about everyone's personal opinion. It's really annoying when people try to act like music snobs and talk shit about other people's muisc taste. Frankly, I think it's pretty childish and immature. I realize that the Beatles were a very talented band, however; I do not enjoy listening to them. I still have a great deal of respect for them and the way in which they were pioneers for rock music, but their musical style is simply not my taste. Instead of putting down other people's personal music taste, maybe you should learn to embrace and respect the talented artists in that genre.

Umm...yes it does...because people want to listen to SKILLFUL musicians who are talented at their craft. People like Led Zeppelin because Jimmy Paige was a SKILLED guitarist. People like Metallica because Kirk Hammett is a SKILLED guitarist. People don't like Ashlee Simpson because she has NO skill.

I don't understand why you would even say that. No one is saying that everyone needs to listen to/enjoy metal. I love listening to metal. If you don't, that's perfectly fine, metal isn't for everyone. But please have enough respect to not talk shit about something you obviously know very, very little about. That's the great thing about metalheads. At the end of the day, we just don't give a fuck what you think because we love our music and that's all that matters. We don't need approval from you, or anyone else. You're not a metalhead, and you clearly have no clue what metal is all about.

I don't agree that all metal musicians are talented, all genres have good and bad musicians.

If people say they don't like any metal its fine. It's subjective dude, sometimes people don't like certain genres which is fine, it doesn't mean they're close minded. Maybe they just can't listen to that style...

Lol. I guess my argument went over your head. I'm not bashing metal at all, the person I quoted was making an argument that people should listen to metal based on the fact that the musicianship is by far the best. I took this to mean it takes the most skill to play metal, but the poster later clarified that he meant something else. I've heard the argument many times that people should prefer one genre of music over another because it takes great skill to perform, but that really is irrelevant. That's all I was saying. I wasn't bashing metal or anything. I don't really see where you got that from. It's a moot point anyway because that poster wasn't claiming that metal is the most skillful genre.
